Reach new heights and see Old Dominion from a new perspective on a Virginia zipline adventure. 

Virginia’s topography is diverse, and the state’s many zipline attractions provide a unique opportunity to explore it. Zip through coastal wetlands and forests or over the top of canyons. Some of the ziplines found throughout Virginia feature many obstacles and can take hours to complete, while others offer a more relaxing experience. Keep reading to discover the best Virginia zipline for you.

1. Treetop Zoofari

See the Metro Richmond Zoo from a new vantage point on the Treetop Zoofari zipline course. Featuring 15 ziplines spanning more than 3,000 feet, this zipline adventure takes riders through the forest and over the zoo, offering a chance to see monkeys, kangaroos, toucans, and gazelles from above. The course also features obstacles, such as bridges, ladders, and jungle ropes, and takes two to three hours to complete. (Note that at the time of writing, the Treetop Zoofari course is closed for renovations but is expected to reopen in May or early June.) 

For younger thrill seekers, there is the Junior Explorer course, which was recently renovated and includes two ziplines.

2. Go Ape Zipline & Adventure Park

Go Ape Zipline & Adventure Park offers guests two zipline experiences: Treetop Adventure and Treetop Journey. Treetop Adventure takes two to three hours to complete and features long ziplines (up to 600 feet in length) through the forest canopy, suspended bridges, and 37 obstacles as high as 42 feet in the air. 

Expect to spend about one hour making your way through the Treetop Journey course, which includes ziplines up to 100 feet long, bridges, and 30 obstacles as high as 20 feet in the air. 

Cost: Tickets start at $34.95 for the Treetop Journey and increase to $64.95 for the Treetop Adventure.

3. Bear Mountain Ziplines

Bear Mountain Ziplines, located on 50 acres of forested area, offers seven ziplines spanning 2,7000 feet through the forest canopy. You’ll travel up to 35 miles per hour and land on a tower above one of Bear Mountain Ziplines’ other attractions: a three-story-high climbing wall. Another zipline course—with longer stretches and higher altitudes than the existing course—is currently under construction, so visitors will have even more zipline options in the future.

4. The Adventure Park at Virginia Aquarium 

The Adventure Park at Virginia Aquarium features 17 trails, 33 ziplines, and more than 250 treetop platforms. All trails begin at the main platform and are color-coded to indicate their difficulty level. After your three-hour adventure is up, you can explore the rest of the aquarium’s attractions and exhibits (for an additional fee). 

Cost: General admission adult tickets start at $64 and include three hours of climbing plus a 30-minute orientation beforehand.

5. Adventureworks Wetland Ziplines 

Explore Virginia’s coastal wetlands from above at Adventureworks Wetland Ziplines. Soar through the trees—up to 60 feet high—and glide just inches above the wetlands. There are nine different ziplines—some up to 1,000 feet in length—with a short hike separating each one. Expect to spend about 90 minutes on this zipline adventure. 

Cost: $59.90 for adults; $49.90 for those 17 years old and younger

6. Zipline Adventure at Breaks Interstate Park

Enjoy panoramic views of Breaks Canyon, dubbed the Grand Canyon of the South, on a ziplining adventure at Breaks Interstate Park. Riders soar from overlook to overlook along the edge of the canyon, which reaches depths of more than 1,000 feet.

7. Mega Zip

Massanutten Resort and its Family Adventure Park offer a number of outdoor activities, including ziplining. The Mega Zip spans 800 feet and allows riders to travel as fast as 30 miles per hour. Other activities and attractions at the resort include scenic chairlift rides, waterparks, mountain biking, and golf.   

Cost: Pay $20 for one zipline ride or $30 for two.

8. Treetop Quest at Explore Park

Treetop Quest at Explore Park is a two-hour adventure that includes ziplines; obstacles such as Tarzan swings, tightropes, and cargo nets; and a net trampoline for younger adventurers. The ziplines are 45 feet high and up to 160 feet in length, and riders can expect to go as fast as 25 miles per hour.

9. Adventure Park at Sandy River Outdoor Adventures

Adventure Park at Sandy River Outdoor Adventures offers a three-hour adventure complete with 60 obstacles, such as suspended bridges and tight ropes, and 20 different zip lines. If you want to make this trip an overnight adventure, book one of the resort’s log cabins or luxurious glamping tipis. You can also go kayaking, paddle boarding, or biking, or unwind during a yoga session or crafting class. 

Cost: Adult tickets cost $65

10. Canopy Adventure Park

At Canopy Adventure Park, you’ll find four unique zipline experiences with ropes courses, aerial bridges, and cargo nets. Ziplines reach a height of 45 feet, and the entire experience should last about two hours and 30 minutes. You can also explore two illuminated zipline courses at night with the Bright Nights package. 

Cost: $52.95 ($34.95 for Bright Nights)

11. Salamander Adventures Middleburg

Salamander Adventures Middleburg offers several outdoor adventure packages, many of which include ziplining. The Tree Top Zip Tour features five ziplines varying in length from 275 to 675 feet and two suspension sky bridges. The course spans more than 20 acres through the forest canopy.  The Zipline & Archery package adds an archery class to the ziplining adventure, and the Zip & Survival package adds outdoor survival instruction on topics like shelter building and animal trapping. With the Zip & Sip package, you can unwind after your ziplining adventure with craft cocktails or local brews

Cost: $149 for the Tree Top Zip Tour; $170 for Zipline & Archery; Zip & Survival starts at $75; and Zip & Sip tickets cost $75

12. Harpers Ferry Adventure Center 

Harpers Ferry Adventure Center has seven ziplines that reach heights up to 40 feet and span 425 feet in length, giving riders plenty of opportunities to enjoy the beautiful views of the surrounding area. The Center also offers kayaking, rafting, tubing, a ropes course, and camping. Plus, Harpers Ferry Brewing is right next door for post-adventuring beers. 

Cost: $59 for adults; $54 for youth tickets
