5 local orgs to support during Slavery & Human Trafficking Prevention Month
Learn about five trustworthy organizations that work to combat human trafficking in Arizona and beyond.
January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, and Arizona is among the states most dedicated to awareness and prevention efforts. This year, Governor Katie Hobbs declared the month a time to identify opportunities to support organizations, raise awareness, and educate for prevention.
Trafficking is any form of exploitation that involves fraud and coercion to force others into providing sex or labor. While anyone can become a victim of trafficking, certain groups face disproportionate risk, including low-income individuals, people with uncertain immigration status, and those experiencing mental health challenges. People experiencing homelessness represent another demographic severely impacted by trafficking.
In 2025, the National Human Trafficking Hotline received 550 signals from Arizona, with 175 coming from victims or survivors. Three hundred cases were identified that year, involving 671 identified victims. Sex trafficking made up the highest number of those cases at 136, followed by labor at 87, and the combination of the two at 46.
This month, support organizations that are making a difference for these victims.
1. Southern Arizona Against Slavery
Southern Arizona Against Slavery is an organization that provides victims with resources to put them back on their feet. Some of their work includes a bridal shop internship that provides survivors with work experience and assistance, as well as mentorship programs that help them with both personal and career development, and emotional and legal system support.
They are a 501(c)3 tax-deductible non-profit looking to assist those dealing with the trauma of sex trafficking. Entirely volunteer-run, every dollar donated goes back into their programs. One of their main sources of advocacy comes in the form of education, where they lead programs to teach vulnerable youth and adults how to keep themselves safe from human trafficking.

4. Arizona Anti-Trafficking Network
The Arizona Anti-Trafficking Network seeks to change the ideology behind human trafficking. This organization looks to bust myths around the topic while providing education and training to the community, understanding that to eliminate sexual exploitation, they must work across different fields.
Their strategy includes working with the state government to promote anti-sex buying policy, target exploiters, and improve the lives of survivors through education and intervention. This group created several programs, including CIS, or the Community School Initiative, which helps at-risk youth, and SAFE, which teaches those employed in the tourism and hospitality fields the signs to look for and how to provide help safely.

Love Society AZ takes a unique approach to helping the victims of sex trafficking. Volunteers put together “Love Bags,” or totes filled with products they may need in shelters. The grassroots organization looks to give back to the community through acts of kindness. Each bag is thoughtfully curated, packed with items they need, engaging activities, and healthy snacks.
Serving as a symbol of hope and solidarity, Love Society AZ hosts events to get locals involved in the cause. At their Love Bank, volunteers work together to assemble bags and deliver them to those in need. To date, the organization has distributed bags to 20,000 people in need.
