In honor of Black Business Month, try one of these seven Black-owned restaurants in Dallas-Fort Worth.
Dallas-Fort Worth is often called a melting pot because of the many diverse cultures and traditions of those who live here. There are many, many restaurant options that offer unique tastes and flavors from all over the world. DFW is a mecca for foodies—so much so that sometimes it’s difficult to choose where to dine out.
In August, narrow it down by eating at one of the beloved Black-owned restaurants in DFW in honor of Black Business Month! From Mediterranean cuisine to breakfast options and mouth-watering southern-style food, you’ll be set the rest of the month at these establishments.
1. Roots Southern Table
Location: 13050 Bee Street, Suite 160, Farmers Branch
Hours: 5-10 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday (and occasional brunch hours)
Price range: $10-$65
Chef Tiffany Derry grew up in the South, enjoying good food with her family, which is what the James Beard-recognized restaurant Roots Southern Table is all about.
This restaurant is famous for its Duck Fat-Fried Chicken, which one local called “the star of the show” on Yelp, describing it as “delicious, tender, and juicy.” Other yummy options include their Cast Iron Cornbread, topped with syrup, sweet potato butter, and cranberry apple preserves, and Fried Green Tomatoes, served with goat cheese pimento, prosciutto, and rhubarb pepper jam. For dessert, you can’t go wrong with the Orange Juice Cake, which is a butter cake with orange and crème fraiche.
2. The Breakfast Brothers

Most people already have a favorite breakfast place, but if you’re willing to try something new, you won’t regret The Breakfast Brothers. In fact, one person on Yelp called it their “new go-to breakfast spot” because the “food is bomb” and is well worth the often-long wait times because it’s so popular.
If chicken and waffles is your jam, you can definitely find that here—as well as other tasty iterations like fried salmon and pancakes or catfish and red velvet waffles. There are tons of savory options as well, plus a lunch menu you won’t be able to resist.
3. Kitchen + Kocktails
Location: 1933 Elm Street, Dallas
Hours: 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday-Sunday
Price range: $13-$107
Elevated entrees and unbelievable cocktails await at the aptly named Kitchen + Kocktails. Start with chargrilled oysters, deviled eggs with Cajun shrimp, or a melted collard greens dip. Dinner options include Caribbean jerk lamb chops, fried lobster tail, and southern-fried catfish served with spaghetti.
There’s also an entire menu of flavorful mini waffles, which can be served with or without fried chicken. As for cocktails, opt for one of the many frozen margaritas, including spicy jalapeño, pineapple, blackberry, and strawberry. Other fun-to-drink (and photograph) options include the Cotton Candy Cloud, the Toasted Marshmallow Espresso Martini, and the delightful Honey Bee.
One Yelp reviewer said the restaurant “completely blew us away!”
4. Café Nubia

As an upscale Afro-fusion and Mediterranean restaurant, Café Nubia is one of a kind. The spot is known for its incredible peanut-based Suya seasoning, which you can get on ribeye beef, tacos, wings, and even omelets during weekend brunch.
Additional house specials include stewed oxtail, slow-cooked in African spices; penne pasta with Cajun sauce, blackened garlic, shrimp, and andouille sausage; and crispy falafel with chickpeas, sesame, hummus, tahini sauce, and cucumber. Is your mouth watering yet?
Don’t forget to order a signature cocktail while you’re there, like a Watermelon Paloma or a Nubian Margarita, made with passionfruit.
5. Aunt Irene’s Kitchen

Dining at Aunt Irene’s Kitchen is like going home to a delicious home-cooked meal. That’s because its founder, Dresha Harrison, learned how to cook from her real-life aunt Irene. Now, she serves the masses in DFW.
This spot’s most famous dish is the Black Box, made with crab, shrimp, sausage, corn, and potatoes. You can also get a variety of Cajun seafood boils, fried or grilled meats, and catering options to feed the whole family.
Locals love this restaurant, with one person writing on Yelp, “The food here is absolutely positively some of the best in Dallas. The golden batter is like heaven on a plate.”
6. Soirée Coffee Bar
Location: 320 Singleton Boulevard, Suite 190, Dallas
Hours: 7 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday-Friday; 7 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday; 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday-Sunday
Price range: $3-$16
Skip Starbucks this month and try the Soirée Coffee Bar instead; It supports Black vendors, helps the community, and brings people together. Soirée provides a soothing, jazz-like atmosphere for all customers and offers both coffee and cocktails.
The honey-lavender Lena Horne and the salted brown sugar Ella Fitzgerald lattes are both amazing. For cocktails, you’ll like the Jazz on the Rocks made with Bacardi, cranberry, orange, pineapple, strawberry, and peach puree, or the Soirée Coffee Old Fashion, with Patron XO Café, cold brew, simple syrup, and orange bitters.
You can also grab bites, like breakfast tacos, biscuits and gravy, shrimp po’boy sandwiches, and veggie linguine among others. One person on Yelp called Soirée “a total vibe, blending a smooth jazz aesthetic with some of the best service in the city.”
7. Sweet Georgia Brown

Sweet Georgia Brown serves Southern soul food and barbecue—need we say more? They offer delicious meats, including beef tips, fried catfish, ribs, and baked chicken, alongside scrumptious sides like fried okra, macaroni and cheese, and collard greens.
“The portions are gigantic!! No joke,” one happy customer praised on Yelp. “Come hungry or bring lots of friends because they are not stingy with the servings.”
Another person said, “If you’re looking for real Southern comfort food that tastes like it came straight out of Grandma’s kitchen, Sweet Georgia Brown is the spot.”
