From delicious halal dishes to the most tender ribs in the state, check out these seven restaurants that have rightly gone viral on social media.

Social media may have its fair share of issues, but one benefit is that it’s great for restaurants looking to expand their digital footprint and reel in new, hungry customers. Any restaurant owner or manager can create content to promote their food, and pleased diners often share their favorite foods online. Plus, when you factor in influencers who make taste-testing their way around their communities their job, there are seemingly endless opportunities for restaurants to go viral.

And that’s precisely what we’re here to talk about. Whether you want to find Virginia restaurants that really stick to their themes for a kitschy ol’ time or Virginia’s best gluten-free restaurants to dine worry-free, social media has you covered. But, of course, you don’t have to go searching on your own. We gathered all the social media-famous establishments you need to know about, from halal meals to soul food and Philly cheesesteaks, so you can go give them your own stamp of approval.

1. Flavor Hive

Address: 5730 General Washington Dr, Alexandria, VA 22312

Hours: Monday-Thursday: 7 a.m.-10 p.m.; Friday-Saturday: 7 a.m.-12 a.m.; Sunday: 7 a.m.-10 p.m.

When compiling this list of social media-famous restaurants in Virginia, we immediately knew we had to start with Flavor Hive. This restaurant started as a food truck, and thanks to the power of TikTok, it went viral and created a loyal, ever-expanding fan base. Now in a brick-and-mortar shop in Alexandria, Flavor Hive boasts nearly 1.5 million followers on its TikTok account alone.

Flavor Hive was engineered to go viral. It was born from a food truck veteran and an avid social media user coming together to create a business that would reshape their entire lives. Now, they offer “halal meat bowls,” according to WTOP News, and allow customers to bring in their own favorite flavor of potato chip to use in their meal. It’s a unique concept, and it’s clearly catching on. Even TikTok’s own Keith Lee visited Flavor Hive in 2024, with his video garnering over 6 million views. (For the record, he showed up with Doritos and Fritos.)

2. Last Minute Catering & Cafe

Address: 928 Diamond Springs Rd, Unit 109, Virginia Beach, VA 23455

Hours: Wednesday-Saturday: 3 p.m.-10 p.m.; Sunday: 1 p.m.-8 p.m.

Last Minute Catering & Cafe opened in Virginia Beach in the summer of 2024, serving up plate after plate of soul food that, well, warms the soul. The restaurant’s social media channels are on the quieter side, but local influencer Stormy Blue blew up their business in the best way when she visited in March 2025, less than a year after the eatery opened.

To tease her next restaurant taste-test video, Blue posted a TikTok video of rib meat falling off the bone the second she picked it up because it was so tender. The video amassed nearly 3 million views. Her full taste-test video didn’t reach those same lofty heights, landing at more than 185,000 views, but between the two uploads, Last Minute Catering & Cafe got quite the showing online. The first video is also still pinned to the top of her profile at the time of writing, allowing it to get more views as more people visit her profile.

3. Major Phillie Cheesesteaks

Address: 345 Granby St, Norfolk, VA 23510

Hours: Wednesday-Saturday: 11 a.m.-7 p.m.; Sunday: 12 p.m.-7 p.m.

Another restaurant Stormy Blue helped elevate on social media is Major Phillie Cheesesteaks, a Norfolk eatery known for its piping-hot, oozy sandwiches. Major Phillie Cheesesteaks has 24,000 followers on TikTok, but a June 2023 video from Blue has amassed more than 872,000 views, putting these sandwiches firmly into the spotlight.

The kicker? The shop puts a Caribbean spin on the traditional cheesesteak. For instance, you can order an oxtail cheesesteak, or you can get your sandwich with jerk chicken. In any case, you shouldn’t leave disappointed. As one viewer commented on Blue’s video, “This place is good regardless of what you get.”

4. Okonomi Asian Grill

Address: 9623 Fairfax Blvd, Fairfax, VA 22031

Hours: Monday-Friday: 11 a.m.-9 p.m.

Don’t count out Fairfax yet; it has its own viral restaurant, too. Okonomi Asian Grill is beloved in the area, and it caught the attention of TikTok’s most-famous taste-tester, Keith Lee, in 2024. In his review video, he shows screenshots of an email he received that implored him to visit Okonomi Asian Grill and put it on the map in a big way. And, of course, he did just that. Lee gave the restaurant a score of nine out of 10 points, and his video racked up over 6.7 million views.

Okonomi Asian Grill is lauded for its bold yet well-rounded flavors and adaptability. Similar to Chipotle, the restaurant allows you to build your own bowls, so you only get the ingredients you want. This also gives you the opportunity to try new combinations each time you visit. Naturally, guests love this. “Okonomi is FANTASTIC! We love it and food never misses,” one user commented on Lee’s video.

5. Bar-Q

Address: 2600 W Main St, Richmond, VA 23220

Hours: Wednesday-Saturday: 11 a.m.-7 p.m.; Sunday: 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Pronounced “bark,” Bar-Q is one of the best BBQ spots in Richmond, at least according to TikTok. In July 2025, foodie @renzoeats visited the “hidden gem” to taste its Monster Burrito, among other foods. The burrito was filled with brisket, bacon, sausage, and more, making it perfect for any local meat lover. It doesn’t appear to still be on the menu at the time of writing.

Though the commenters didn’t agree that Bar-Q is a “hidden gem” due to its massive popularity, they did agree that its food is excellent. Renzoeats’ video has accrued more than 70,000 likes, so Bar-Q may just need to be your next date-night outing.

6. Ford’s Fish Shack

Address: 44260 Ice Rink Plaza #101, Ashburn, VA 20147

Hours: Monday-Thursday: 11 a.m.-10 p.m.; Friday: 11 a.m.-11 p.m.; Saturday: 10 a.m.-11 p.m.; Sunday: 10 a.m.-10 p.m.

If you’re in Ashburn, you may already be familiar with the delicacies offered at Ford’s Fish Shack. If you’re not from Ashburn, you’re missing out—but we’re here to put you on. Ford’s Fish Shack fries up tender, flaky fish, serves up buttery lobster rolls, and stuffs unctuous fish tacos. It’s a seafood lover’s dream on any given day, and TikTok creator @theangelfoodie put that firmly in the spotlight in a November 2025 video.

The video was part of a series in which she tastes fish and chips from various restaurants across the DMV area, and it’s safe to say that Ford’s Fish Shack ranked toward the top. “Unless I go to the U.K., I don’t think I’m going to find better fish and chips than this,” the foodie mentions in her video after taking a few crunchy bites of fish. Her video blew up, garnering more than 154,000 likes.

7. Kilgore’s Korner

Kilgore’s Korner is a food truck, so it doesn’t have a permanent address, but it’s worth the effort to find it. (And, really, all you have to do is follow the truck on Facebook.) Customers who have eaten this truck’s food love it, and Kilgore’s Korner was given an even bigger spotlight thanks to content creator Cookin With Megg uploading a video about it in April 2026.

Megg had easy access to show off the truck’s dishes; after all, the owner is her father. The video sees the creator flaunting several of his dishes, from gorgeous bloomin’ onions to loaded french fries, all under the premise that she’s never tried his food before due to living in a different state than him.

So, she set out to change that, and she exposed him to countless viewers along the way. The video amassed over 560,000 likes, and commenters agreed that his food is delectable. “STOP I love Kilgores korner I hate that I moved away, I miss it all the time,” one user wrote.
