Nothing is better than meeting up with a friend or loved one for a freshly brewed cup of coffee at your local cafe—unless that cafe allows you to bring your furry friend, too of course.
We always encourage you to check ahead of any cafe you’re visiting just to double-check on any rules about bringing pets (and inquire if they any restrictions or rules, like up-to-date vaccinations), but to get you started, we found these nine pet-friendly Michigan cafes that allow you to bring your furry sidekick along for your caffeine quest.
Some of the cafes allow dogs to come inside, while others offer generous outdoor patio seating for you and your dog BFF to enjoy. Call ahead before you visit so there are no surprises and don’t forget that pupacchino while you’re there!
The Doghouse Coffee

The Doghouse Coffee in downtown Lapeer, MI offers a laid-back atmosphere and artisan coffee from beans roasted on-site in 7-pound batches for ultimate flavor profiles. The cafe is proudly owned by US Navy veteran Don Wingard and his wife Ulyana, who are ultimate dog lovers. A portion of every purchase goes towards supporting animal rescue initiatives and no-kill shelters. Coffee lovers and their furry friends are welcome in The Doghouse, which boasts, naturally, an actual doghouse playhouse inside. And if you’re not local to the area, fear not—the Doghouse is opening a second location in Metamora, MI, opening soon!
Coffee & Bark

Inside the popular Coffee & Bark shop near Royal Oak, you will find the “BarkEasy,” a dog-friendly indoor zone that’s part of the coffee shop where dogs and their owners are welcome. The BarkEasy is inside, making it a comfortable place for dog owners and pups to kick back and relax, or get work done. Walk-ins are welcome or you can reserve a table online ahead of your visit for only $8.
Michigan Coffee and Creamery Company

Proudly serving up piping hot (or refreshingly cold) Great Lakes Coffee, this coffee shop is uniquely Michigan. Not only do they offer delicious coffee drinks, but you can also indulge your sweet tooth at this cafe and sample delicious desserts like milkshakes, ice cream sandwiches, fresh-squeezed lemonade, and of course, Michigan ice cream. The cafe has a generous outdoor patio where pets are welcome.
The Congregation

The Congregation has an absolutely fascinating history as a former church and home to many civil rights warriors throughout history. Now serving up coffee and artisan cocktails, the Congregation has preserved many of the historic details in the gathering space, including original stained glass windows, a 1900s organ, and an altar space where local artists now perform. The cafe also hosts many outdoor events in the Greenspace where visitors are welcome to gather with their furry friends.
Barkside Detroit

An off-leash dog park, cafe, and bar, Barkside Detroit is a dog lover’s dream. Furry friends can enjoy an indoor play area, a heated patio, and a mud-free dog park all year long while their owners can sip their favorite beverages. All dogs must be registered before your visit and dog-free visitors must sign a waiver upon entry as well. There are even trained Canine Coordinators who will assess first-time doggo visitors’ temperaments upon arrival and “Rufarees” oversee play to ensure everyone has a good time.
Walnut & Park

With a generous umbrella-shaded patio outside, dog owners are welcome to enjoy a brew as well as food outside—with everything from breakfast bagels to burritos to sweet treats—with their furry friends. The cafe is also unique because it participates in the KPEP program, an innovative community corrections provider based in Kalamazoo.
Constellation Cat Cafe

The Constellation Cat cafe is a cat-lover’s dream: Schedule a time to visit and hang out with a multitude of pretty kitties or just kick back and relax with a caffeinated beverage. Part cafe and part rescue shelter, the cafe features a separate room with 6-20 adoptable rescue cats that you can visit and play with, as well as a cafe serving tea, milkshakes, and of course, coffee. Volunteers are always welcome and the cafe hosts lots of fun events like trivia nights too. One small caveat, though: the cafe is for you to enjoy the kittens and cats that are there, so the owners do ask you to refrain from bringing your own cat to play too.
Uncommon Coffee Roasters

According to one Google review, this beachside town and farmer-owned cafe offers a special service for dog owners: “Excellent place for coffee and breakfast! We stopped in for a short meeting and the service was great. They have a “doggie window” if you bring your furry friend.” While you’re there, enjoy a specialty latte like the French Guiana, which features cinnamon, chocolate, and cayenne, or fill up with a hearty breakfast sandwich.
The Fern

The Fern is a woman-owned tea cafe in Royal Oak and according to multiple Google reviews, it’s a cafe that’s very pet-friendly. “My wife and I stopped by today, and the tea was amazing. They allow pets too, so we were able to come in with our puppy Suki,” shared one Google reviewer. They serve everything from refreshing drinks like strawberries and cream matcha to hydrating blends like peach and pineapple tea to of course, classic caffeinated coffee drinks.
