Roots Picnic – Philadelphia
Date: Summer 2025, specific dates TBA
Roots Picnic is the popular festival dreamed up and hosted by hip hop group The Roots, and the festival of course takes place in the group’s hometown of Philadelphia. The festival’s main stage at the Mann Center in Fairmount Park always features well-known hip hop and R&B artists. For example, in 2024, Lil Wayne headlined the festival along with The Roots. The Roots announced a smaller “Roots Picnic Experience” to take place in Los Angeles in June 2025, but said they’ll be back in Philly following that event. Next summer’s dates will be posted on the Roots Picnic website!
Sing Us Home Festival – Philadelphia
Dates: May 2-4, 2025
Philadelphia’s Sing Us Home Festival is an outdoor music festival in Manayunk curated by Philly singer-songwriter Dave Hause, known for his folk punk music. The festival, as organizers describe it, “celebrates the talent and spirit of Philadelphia.” The 2025 lineup includes The Bouncing Souls, Frank Turner, and Dave Hause and the Mermaid.
Pittonkatonk – Pittsburgh
Date: May 10, 2025
Pittonkatonk is Pittsburgh’s May Day Festival, a music festival that brings local bands as well as bands from around the world for a free, day-long event focused on “music without boundaries” in public spaces. There are no corporate sponsors or tickets—performers are also festivalgoers, blurring the lines between spectator and musician. Pittonkatonk also hosts social justice organizations to connect the Pittsburgh community to local activism.
Millvale Music Festival – Millvale
Dates: May 16-17, 2025
The Millvale Music Festival is held over two days in the charming hamlet of Millvale, just across the river from Pittsburgh. The free community festival features more than 300 performances, and not just from local bands and singers. Participating performers also include comedians and poets.
Briggs Farm Blues Festival – Nescopeck
Dates: July 10-12, 2025
The two stages at Briggs Farm Blues Festival promise the biggest blues festival in Pennsylvania. The northeastern Pa. festival takes place on the Briggs family’s 440-acre farm and features renowned blues acts from across the nation. The 2025 event will be the 28th edition of the blues festival.
Endless Mountain Music Festival – Wellsboro
Dates: July 18 – August 3, 2025
The Endless Mountain Music Festival brings talented musicians to the north-central region of Pennsylvania for 17 days of 17 concerts. You’ll hear classically trained musicians playing orchestral sounds as well as jazz, blues, pops, and more, all while surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of the Endless Mountains. Big Dub Festival – Artemas
Dates: July 22-27, 2025
The Big Dub Festival, a multi-day music and arts festival at Four Quarters Farm, is focused on immersion in nature as well as electronic dance music. Besides the music, your days will be packed with activities and workshops, like yoga and meditation. You don’t even have to leave the festival site: camping is included in the ticket price.
Pittsburgh Blues and Roots Festival – Pittsburgh
Dates: July 25-27, 2025
Held at the Pittsburgh Shrine Center in Cheswick, the Pittsburgh Blues and Roots Festival is an annual tradition showcasing blues and roots talent from the city of Pittsburgh as well as the rest of the country. Proceeds from the event go toward sharing music with youth on the autism spectrum.
Flood City Music Festival – Johnstown
Dates: July 25-26, 2025
First beginning as a community street fair to commemorate the centennial anniversary of the devastating 1889 Johnstown Flood, the Flood City Music Festival is now a major event in the Johnstown area, attracting fans of folk music—and music in general—to the small mountain town. In 2025, the two-day event is expected to feature three stages with 17 concerts.
The Gathering at Chaffee’s – Girard
Dates: July 25-26, 2025
The Gathering at Chaffee’s is a family-run music festival that takes place in the northwestern Pa. city of Girard on the land of the Chaffee family. The festival, which offers campsites, features a number of genres with a focus on funky jam bands. It is, according to the organizers, “a good time music festival.”
Scranton Jazz Festival – Scranton
Dates: August 1-3, 2025
The Scranton Jazz Festival refers to itself as a “New Orleans-style” jazz festival, with three days of music across more than 20 venues in the Electric City. Musicians playing jazz, blues, and world beat music will descend on Scranton from across the street and from around the world. The headlining band requires a ticket, but most of the festival is totally free.
Musikfest – Bethlehem
Dates: August 1-10, 2025
Held over ten days each August, Musikfest in our very own Bethlehem is the largest free music festival in the U.S. The festival features more than 500 free performances and attracts more than a million people each year. You’ll hear a wide variety of genres, including and even beyond country, rap, pop, rock, and classical. The shows at Wind Creek Steel Stage are the only ones that are ticketed. In 2025, the ticketed shows will feature Megan Moroney, Riley Green, Darius Rucker, The Avett Brothers, and Nelly.
Elements Music and Arts Festival – Long Pond
Dates: August 8-10, 2025
Attend Elements Music and Arts Festival for a classic, car camping festival experience with a soundtrack of eclectic music, with tunes by psychedelic, experimental, and jam bands. The festival is rounded out with art performances and vendors selling crafts and food.
Philadelphia Folk Festival – Philadelphia
Dates: August 15-17, 2025
The Philadelphia Folk Festival has been celebrating and uplifting folk music for more than 60 years. The 2025 installment of the festival, which will be held at Old Pool Farm in Upper Salford just outside of Philly, promises another three days of music, art, food, crafts, and family fun. Camping is also available.
Breakaway Music Festival – Philadelphia
Dates: September 12-13, 2025
Breakaway Music Festival is unique among music festivals in that it travels to different cities. In 2025, the electronic music festival is expanding to Philadelphia! The lineup has yet to be announced, but previous festival headliners include Diplo, Deadmau5, and Alison Wonderland.
Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival – Pittsburgh
Dates: September 18-21, 2025
Organizers have announced the dates for 2025’s 15th Annual Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival. The downtown Pittsburgh festival has long hosted local jazz greats as well as jazz legends from around the world.
