Fiesta San Antonio is back April 16-26. Here’s everything you need to know about the celebration.

For 11 days in April, San Antonio’s streets are filled with the sights, sounds, and smells of an enormous cultural celebration: Fiesta San Antonio.

Over two million people attend this “Party With a Purpose” every year, and it’s easy to understand why. From parades to pageants to concerts, each event is meticulously planned to pay homage to the city and its history, but the Fiesta is much more than that. It’s also a way for nonprofits to gain funding for community programs held throughout the year, and for charities to receive the money they need to better serve San Antonio. By coming together with locals and visitors at this festival, you’re creating in-person connections that will ripple through the city for months to come.

Fiesta San Antonio 2026 is scheduled for April 16-26. Below, we’re going to go over the history of the celebration, along with a rough schedule of events and information on how you can purchase tickets to participate. Free events are also scheduled, as are pet-friendly ones, and we’ll show you how to find those, too 🙂.

Fiesta San Antonio has a rich history

Fiesta® San Antonio has been a time-honored tradition since 1891. Originally just one parade, the event was created to commemorate the Battle of San Jacinto and the Alamo, which are still key components of the annual celebration. That first Battle of Flowers parade was dreamed up by San Antonio women who wanted to honor those who gave their lives at these historic battles. They held their first celebration at the Alamo, and the ceremony involved participants throwing flowers at one another during battle reenactments. With each passing year, new elements were added until the fiesta blossomed into the experience we enjoy in the modern era.

Nowadays, over 100 local nonprofits coordinate the multi-day fiesta alongside Fiesta Member Organizations. In doing so, they raise funds for several causes and programs and also contribute about $340 million to the economy. By attending the fiesta, you’ll be supporting (among countless others):

  • Local community building
  • Higher education programs and scholarships
  • Arts and nature
  • Children’s programs and events
  • Animal and pet welfare
  • LGBTQIA+ and inclusive events
  • The special needs community
  • Military programs

Over 100 events are scheduled—here are the biggest ones

While it would be impossible to detail every one of the 100 events scheduled to take place during Fiesta San Antonio (if you want a complete rundown of everything that’s happening and when, click here), we can at least hit a few of the highlights. “Fiesta Fiesta” starts the celebration at Travis Park with food, family-friendly activities, and live entertainment. Held from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m., the “Fiesta Fiesta” is free to attend. Pro tip: Try out the famous Chicken on a Stick while you’re there!

The Battle of Flowers Parade is still held every year, and the 2026 event is scheduled for April 24 at 10:30 a.m. You can buy street chair and bleacher tickets to that parade, as well as the Fiesta Blambeau Parade on April 25, here. The Fiesta Blambeau Parade starts at 7:45 p.m. that day. The Fiesta Carnival is held every day through the full run of dates and is located at Alamodome Parking Lot C, 100 Montana Street. Everything you could ever dream of will be available at the carnival, including food, drinks, games, entertainment, and more.

The King William Fair is also a fan favorite. Hosted on April 25, the event gives you prime viewing for the parade scheduled that evening, and it also has tents dedicated to arts & crafts, music performances, and shops. Plus, there’s a designated Kid’s Kingdom with interactive games and rides for your little ones. Most events are family-friendly, though there are some that are geared strictly toward adults. When you click that link I provided you a few paragraphs ago detailing the fiesta’s full schedule, you’ll be able to see which celebrations are 18+ or 21+. There’s also an option here to sort by pet-friendly events if taking your furry friend is a must!

What to wear + festival culture

In terms of what to wear, Visit San Antonio recommends wearing sunscreen as it’s an outdoor festival and encourages visitors to wear something bright and festive to feel even more involved in the celebration. Sunglasses and practical shoes are also must-have items to ensure you have a comfortable experience for as many hours, or days, as you plan to attend Fiesta San Antonio.

Fiesta medals are given out throughout the 11-day event, and people like to collect as many as they possibly can, so be on the lookout for those! Flower crowns will complete pretty much any outfit if you want to bring your own or browse through available options at on-site vendors. Beyond that, though, all you need to do is bring a positive attitude and have fun! Fiesta San Antonio is designed to make everyone feel appreciated and included, and to celebrate the myriad cultures that make Texas unique.
