Phase One of construction on Frisco’s Grand Park is set to begin on April 27. Here’s everything you need to know.

The idea of Grand Park has seemed more like a myth than an eventual reality to many Frisco residents. DallasPartyof2 wrote on Instagram that it was “20 years in the making,” but it seems like the 1,000-acre park will end up being worth the wait. If, for some reason, 1,000 acres doesn’t seem like a lot to you, Chron put things into perspective by pointing out that New York City’s famed Central Park is only 843 acres in total. Just, you know, for a general comparison. The new Grand Park will stretch from FM 243 in Frisco to Dallas North Tollway to Lake Lewisville and encompass five distinct hubs. The first of which will be Civic Park.

Phase One of construction—AKA the establishment of Civic Park—will officially begin on April 27 and is expected to be completed sometime in 2027. The groundbreaking announcement came several months after Frisco City Council unanimously approved Crossland Construction’s contract to handle the initial stages of the project on October 7. This particular hub will be around 68 acres and take roughly $43.4 million to build. Civic Park is set to include an event orchard, amphitheater, arrival garden, grand promenade, shade pavilion, wetland and boardwalk, splash pad, restrooms, picnic areas, food trucks, bike racks, a three-acre pond equipped with a kayak launch, play sculpture, walking trails, a festival street, and more (if you can even believe it). The existing Big Bluestem Trail will be incoporated into Civic Park’s design.

In its Facebook post announcing the upcoming groundbreaking, Frisco Parks & Rec wrote, “This isn’t just another park; it’s a world-class urban oasis designed to welcome all Frisco residents and visitors to an intentionally designed community space that invites all ages and abilities to play, explore, discover, and connect.”

There are four other districts being built at Grand Park

In addition to Civic Park, the entirety of Grand Park will encompass four additional districts, including Sports Park, Adventure Play, Nature Center, and Botanic Gardens and Nature Area. Adventure Play will span 39 acres; Botanic Garden and Nature Area 78 acres; Sports Park 46 acres; and Nature Center 37 acres. When all five distinct hubs are completed, they’ll house 16 acres of pond, 20.7 miles of trails, 189 acres of natural space, 100 acres for programmed areas, and 1,051 parking spots.

In 2024, Frisco wrote that Grand Park would be “a destination for fitness, wellness, respite, and activity that celebrates diversity of Frisco’s culture and activates the curiosity and creativity of all who visit.” It certainly sounds like it will achieve all of these key goals.
