Iowa celebrated Pride Month with a bang in 2026, but the fun is continuing with these six fun late-summer and fall events. Here’s how to get in on them.
Pride season starts early in the summer every year, and June 2026 gave us many fun and unifying small-town pride events across Iowa. However, the fun isn’t stopping there. Looking ahead to the last searing days of summer and the first chilly ones of fall, Iowa still has a smattering of events to partake in if you want to keep feeling that joyous, communal spirit that Pride Month brings.
We’ve also found a couple of non-festival options for those who want to experience a more relaxed yet equally inclusive time. With that said, here are six late-summer and early-fall Pride events across Iowa that you won’t want to miss in 2026.
1. Picnic in the Park
Where: ITC Pavilion at Noelridge Park (4900 Council St NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52402)
When: Aug. 15
Cost: Free
Picnic in the Park, also called the Pride Picnic, is being held by Cedar Rapids’ resident LGBTQ+ organization, CR Pride, and will take over the ITC Pavilion at Noelridge Park from 12 p.m to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15. The reason is twofold: CR Pride is using this time to allow locals to meet the organization’s new board, including its president and vice president, and it’s creating a space for like-minded people to gather and mingle on a lovely almost-fall afternoon.
This is a free, potluck-style event, so bringing savory dishes and desserts is encouraged. The lovely folks at CR Pride will be grilling hamburgers and hot dogs, and bottled water will be provided as well. Any side dishes and desserts brought will spread the love and ensure there’s enough grub to go around. The organization asks that folks RSVP at the link above so it can accurately assess how many burgers and hot dogs are needed.
Lastly, it’s worth noting that this is a communal event above all else. While you can mingle with the president, vice president, and board, you’re not obligated to; instead, you can make new friends, hang out with your chosen family, and say goodbye to summer in style.
2. Cedar Valley Pridefest
Where: RiverLoop EXPO Plaza (400 Commercial St, Waterloo, IA 50701)
When: Aug. 28-29
Cost: $20-$25
If you’re looking for a late-summer bash to end the season on a high note, look no further than Cedar Valley Pridefest. This festival is taking over Waterloo’s RiverLoop EXPO Plaza for the final weekend of August, and with Iowa not having any big pride events slated for September, this is your last chance to go all out with your found family before fall.
Tickets to Cedar Valley Pridefest are just $20 until Aug. 19. After that, they go up to $25. But either price is a bargain when you consider what all you get when attending this fabulous event. First and foremost, you get to spend two full days among like-minded people. In 2025, nearly 10,000 people attended the festival, according to its website. You may just make some new forever friends!
In addition to general camaraderie, your ticket grants you access to live music performances from local musicians like Rebel Queens, Alisabeth Von Presley, and Lost Wax; drag performances from yet-to-be-announced local legends; art activities, and local vendors from myriad industries, including food, home wares, and more. There’s even a kids’ zone to help keep your little ones entertained.
3. Pride on the Riverfront
Where: Burlington Riverfront Entertainment (200 N Front St, Burlington, IA 52601)
When: Oct. 3
Cost: Free
If you’re looking for a fall pride event that’s mostly free, you need to visit the 2026 Pride on the Riverfront event. There are some paid aspects of BTown Pride’s festival, like a raffle event, but entry to the event itself is free. With a full day of fun planned, that’s a bargain!
The itinerary for Pride on the Riverfront starts with Morning Mindfulness, a 30-minute stretching session to help prepare everyone for the busy yet beautiful day ahead. The events to follow include the annual parade on Jefferson St., the commencement ceremony where the grand marshals receive their crowns, the festival proper where live music and delicious food are found, the raffle, and Pride After Dark, a dance party at Burlington Auditorium complete with drag performers.

4. Decorah Pride
Where: Downtown Decorah
When: Oct. 6-10
Cost: Free
Decorah Pride is your one-stop shop if you’re looking for a multi-day pride extravaganza. The main festival is slated for Saturday, Oct. 10, but the days leading up to it are full of additional opportunities to make new connections, let loose, and have fun. For example, Oct. 8 will see Pride Trivia taking Impact Coffee by storm, and a queer opera event will bring the house down on Oct. 9. Then, you can start the festival day strong with Pride Yoga.
That said, we know what most of you are here for: the parade and festival. On Oct. 10, the annual Decorah Pride Parade will kick off at 1 p.m. on Water St., followed by the Pride Street Festival on Winnebago St. at 1:30 p.m. In the evening, a ticketed drag show will light up the stage at the Steyer Opera House, and a free dance party will close out the night afterward at the same venue. From yoga to dancing the night away, you’re bound to leave Decorah Pride Fest the only way you know you had a great day: feeling ready for a good night’s sleep!
5. Ames Pridefest
Where: TBA
When: Oct. 10
Cost: TBA
Ames Pridefest, organized by the local nonprofit Ames Pride, is scheduled to bring together local LGBTQ+ folks and allies on Saturday, Oct. 10. Details about the event’s itinerary, vendors, and entertainer lineup have yet to be released, but with Ames Pridefest always ushering in a wave of joy for folks from across the state, we have no doubt that Ames Pride is cooking up another wonderful event. 6. Pride Poetry
Where: Studio 13 (13 S Linn St, Iowa City, IA 52240)
When: First Tuesday of every month
Cost: Free
Last but certainly not least is Pride Poetry, a monthly event held at Studio 13, Iowa City’s premier LGBTQ+ nightclub. This event occurs on the first Tuesday of every month, so it’s not specifically a late-summer or fall pride event. On the contrary, it’s scheduled out through July 2027 at the time of writing. Still, it’s worth mentioning because it’s an easy way to find community if you live in the area.
Some late-summer and early-fall dates include Sep. 1 and Oct. 6, and each night lasts from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Oh, and you don’t have to be a poet to attend. Audience members are always welcome, filling out the space to help cheer on the poets who take to the stage for the event’s “unique poetry slam” or the open-mic portion of the evening. You may just leave inspired to put pen to paper.
