This campaign will encompass more than 400 shelters across 45 states, with Maricopa County Animal Care & Control (MCACC) serving as a key participant.
During the event, MCACC will waive adoption fees for dogs aged six months and older. This initiative comes at a crucial time, as highlighted by BISSELL Pet Foundation founder Cathy Bissell: “It has been an incredibly challenging year for saving lives, as our nation’s shelters continue to take in more pets than they are adopting out. Tens of thousands of shelter pets—of all breeds, ages, and personalities—are desperately in need of homes.”

MCACC’s partnership with BISSELL Pet Foundation has already shown promising results. “Our ‘Empty the Shelters’ events have been very successful, and we hope to end the year by truly emptying the shelters,” said Kim Powell, Communications Supervisor for MCACC. The shelter has facilitated over 3,100 adoptions through previous “Empty the Shelters” events.

Since its inception in 2016, the Empty the Shelters program has helped more than 300,000 pets find loving homes. The initiative has expanded to partner with 800 animal welfare organizations across 48 states and Canada, making it the country’s largest funded adoption event.
