New Hampshire is home to numerous ski resorts with trails for skiers of all types and skill levels. Whether you prefer the thrill of downhill skiing or the more relaxed pace of cross-country skiing, there is a resort in the Granite State for you. 

Keep reading to learn more about the nearly 30 ski resorts in New Hampshire and when they plan to open for the season. (Note that the opening dates listed in this guide are tentative and subject to change based on local weather and snowfall.)

1. Abenaki Ski Area

Abenaki Ski Area has seven trails that range in difficulty from green (beginner) to black (advanced) and a terrain park. This community-owned hill is much smaller and less crowded than many of the other resorts in this guide, so it’s ideal for skiers who want a laidback experience—and shorter lines! 

There is also a rustic lodge on site where you can take a break and warm up in between runs. Information on opening hours, day and season pass pricing, and equipment rentals can be found here.

Projected opening date: Abenaki Ski Area’s projected opening date for the 2025-26 season hasn’t been announced yet.

2. Attitash Mountain Resort

Attitash Mountain Resort features 76 trails, with difficulty levels ranging from beginner to advanced, and eight lifts spread across 300 acres and two mountain peaks. The resort has three base lodges with grab-and-go and full-service dining options.

3. Bear Notch Ski Touring Center

Bear Notch Ski Touring Center is home to about 50 cross-country ski trails in natural snow (the center doesn’t make any artificial snow) and a warming hut with hot beverages and snacks.

4. Black Mountain

Black Mountain, situated in the heart of Mount Washington Valley, has 140 acres of skiable terrain, with 45 trails (beginner, intermediate, more difficult, and most difficult) and five lifts. The Lostbo Pub and Alpine Cabin both offer food and drinks.

5. Bretton Woods

Bretton Woods is the largest ski area in New Hampshire, with 464 acres of skiable terrain. The resort has nine lifts and 98 total trails—a combination of alpine and Nordic—many of which run through White Mountain National Forest. Bretton Woods is known for its exceptionally well-groomed trails and earned the number five spot on SKI Magazine’s list of the 20 best resorts in the East for 2026.

6. Cannon Mountain

Cannon Mountain, located in Franconia Notch State Park, has 10 lifts and 98 trails spread throughout 287 skiable acres. It’s also home to the longest vertical drop in New Hampshire (2,180 feet).

7. Cranmore Mountain Resort

Cranmore Mountain Resort has a skiable area that spans more than 170 acres, featuring seven lifts and 60 trails suitable for all levels of skier. The resort area also has multiple dining and lodging options.

8. Crotched Mountain

Crotched Mountain offers skiers about 100 acres of terrain to explore, with 25 trails, five lifts, and two terrain parks.

9. Dartmouth Skiway

Dartmouth Skiway offers a laid-back skiing experience with five lifts and 27 trails on 104 skiable acres. Half of the trails are rated intermediate, with the other half split evenly between beginner and expert levels. There is also a 17,000-square-foot lodge that houses a retail shop, rental area, and ski school.

10. Eastman Cross Country Center

Cross-country skiers and snowshoers can explore 24 miles of groomed woodland trails at Eastman Cross Country Center. There is also an ice skating rink and a groomed hillside for sledding.

Projected opening date: Eastman Cross Country Center’s opening date for the 2025-26 season is weather-dependent because there is no man-made snow.

11. Franconia Village XC Ski Center

Located in the heart of the White Mountains, Franconia Village XC Ski Center has almost 20 miles of groomed and ungroomed terrain to explore. Cross-country ski through trees and over rivers while taking in scenic views of Kinsman Mountain. 

Season and daily trail passes can be purchased at the center’s ski shop.

12. Granite Gorge Mountain Park

Granite Gorge Mountain Park offers about 15 downhill skiing trails. Roxbury Bar & Grill is the perfect place for après-ski drinks and fuel.

13. Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center

Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center, located at the base of Mount Washington, has 28 miles of trails that provide skiers with exceptional views. The groomed and ungroomed trails go through the woods, with some meandering through ​​White Mountain National Forest.

14. Gunstock Mountain Resort

There is plenty of room to explore at Gunstock Mountain Resort, where you’ll find 227 skiable acres, 49 downhill trails, 26 Nordic trails, and two terrain parks. Trail difficulty levels include easy, moderate, advanced, and expert.

15. Jackson Ski Touring Foundation

Jackson Ski Touring Foundation’s cross-country trail system, which includes more than 50 trails, spans more than 60 miles through river valleys and highlands and boasts views of Mount Washington and Presidential Ridge.

16. King Pine Ski Area

Both alpine and Nordic skiers can enjoy King Pine Ski Area. The resort features 17 total trails, six lifts, and about 12 miles of cross-country trails. You’ll also find slopeside lodging at Purity Spring Resort and cozy comfort food to fuel your outdoor adventures at Pine Cone Café.

17. Loon Mountain Resort

Loon Mountain Resort is one of the biggest ski resorts in New Hampshire, with 403 skiable acres, 73 trails, and 13 lifts (the most in the state). The trails span more than 30 miles, with most of them falling into the intermediate category. There is also a network of cross-country ski trails and multiple terrain parks for all skill levels.

18. McIntyre Ski Area

McIntyre Ski Area has 11 alpine trails for beginner- and intermediate-level skiers, two lifts, and two magic carpets. When you need a break, you can grab a drink or bite to eat at the base lodge, which also offers a viewing area of the mountain.

19. Mount Sunapee

Mount Sunapee has an impressive 67 trails serviced by eight lifts, as well as four terrain parks spread across 233 acres of skiable terrain. Trails range from green (easier) to double black (extremely difficult), so there is something for skiers of all levels. Additionally, Mount Sunapee has multiple on-mountain dining options and slopeside lodges.

20. Mt. Washington Valley Ski Touring & Snowshoe Foundation

Mt. Washington Valley Ski Touring & Snowshoe Foundation is an excellent option for beginners, as more than half the cross-country trails are rated easy. You also get excellent views of the Saco River and Mount Washington.

21. Nordic Skier Wolfeboro XC

There are almost 20 miles of cross-country ski trails to explore at Nordic Skier Wolfeboro XC, with three difficulty levels ranging from easiest to most difficult.

22. Oak Hill Outdoor Center

Oak Hill Outdoor Center’s cross-country ski trails take skiers through the Upper Valley, boasting stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The trails are well-maintained with snowmaking capabilities and lights and are suitable for all skill levels.

Location: 59 Oak Hill Dr., Hanover

23. Pats Peak

Pats Peak is an excellent ski resort for children or those who are new to the sport, with three separate areas for beginners featuring their own lifts and half of the 28 total trails at the novice level. But there is something for all skill levels, including intermediate, advanced, and expert trails, nine gladed areas, and 11 total lifts.

Hungry skiers will find plenty of food options within the three lodges, ranging from pub grub to deli sandwiches to sweet treats.

24. Pine Hill Ski Club

Pine Hill Ski Club offers more than 10 miles of classic cross-country skiing trails to traverse. Most of the trails are beginner and intermediate level, but there are a couple designed for more advanced skiers too.

25. Ragged Mountain Resort

There are plenty of runs to enjoy at Ragged Mountain Resort—57 total—for beginner, intermediate, advanced, and expert skiers. There is a mix of natural and groomed trails, six different lifts, and multiple terrain parks.

26. Tenney Mountain Resort

Tenney Mountain Resort also offers an impressive variety of alpine trails—50 total—spread throughout 130 skiable acres, as well as several terrain parks.

27. Waterville Valley Resort

Waterville Valley Resort has an impressive selection of trails for both downhill and cross-country skiers, with more than 40 miles of groomed Nordic trails and 62 alpine trails on 4,004-foot Mount Tecumseh, including glades and moguls.  

There are 265 total acres of skiable terrain, 12 lifts, five terrain parks, and six on-mountain dining options.

28. Whaleback Mountain

With about 30 trails, ranging in difficulty from novice to expert only, including gladed areas, plus multiple terrain parks and five lifts, Whaleback Mountain has something to offer all downhill skiers.

29. Wildcat Mountain

Wildcat Mountain, located in Pinkham Notch, is known for its scenic views and rugged terrain. Across 225 acres of skiable terrain, skiers have access to 48 trails and five lifts. Dining options include a cafeteria, a pub with live music on the weekends, a bar located in the base lodge, and a slopeside food truck.
