Let’s talk about tacos: 8 Taco Tuesday deals in NEPA

Alhough Pennsylvania isn’t renowned for its Mexican food like states on the West Coast, the commonwealth can boast of many incredible, locally owned Mexican restaurants, Tex-Mex joints, and taquerias. After all, Latinos are the fastest growing ethnic group in Pa., and more than one million Latinos now call Pennsylvania home.

For instance, as the Latino community grows in northeastern Pa., Hispanic entrepreneurs are helping to revive a culture of small business. And many of these businesses are culinary gems.

We’ve put together a list of some of the best Taco Tuesday deals at restaurants in NEPA. Many of these restaurants are Latino-owned and serve cuisine the chefs grew up eating, while others proudly serve Americanized fusion food. And some restaurants may go all out for Taco Tuesday while others simply offer affordable tacos!

Check out these NEPA businesses the next time you want to treat yourself on a Tuesday.

Picosita Tacos – Nanticoke

Picosita Tacos is a genuine, family-owned taqueria that got its start as a food truck in Mountain Top. On Tuesdays in its brick-and-mortar location in Nanticoke, the restaurant celebrates Taco Tuesday at lunchtime (between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.) with a special offering of four tacos for $10. What excellent motivation to take a lunch break!

La Cantina Amigon – Wilkes-Barre

The Wilkes-Barre Mexican restaurant that’s now located in the former Hottle’s Restaurant space is intent on sharing authentic Mexican culture with the Wilkes-Barre community. But La Cantina Amigon is also not opposed to merging cultures for the benefit of all, in this case meaning more tasty food options, as the restaurant’s menu also features hamburgers and wings. Each Tuesday, you can take advantage of La Cantina Amigon’s Taco Tuesday special — three tacos for $10.

Jive Bar and Lounge – Milford

This classy establishment smack dab in downtown Milford is not a Mexican restaurant, but the Taco Tuesday specials at Jive Bar and Lounge will still draw you in, especially if you’re grabbing dinner before a movie or show nearby. Tacos are just $3 each while margaritas are a mere $5 a pop.

DreamMex Mexican Restaurant and Bar – Scranton

DreamMex Mexican Restaurant and Bar is a family-owned Mexican restaurant where every day is Taco Tuesday—because single tacos are always $3. Of course, you can order other Mexican classics as well, like tortas (Mexican sandwiches), chimichangas (fried burritos), and fajitas.

l Rey Azteca Restaurant – Wilkes-Barre

This popular Wilkes-Barre Mexican restaurant serves up homestyle Mexican cooking per its mission to bring “real Mexican cuisine to NEPA.” And though Taco Tuesday is a U.S. American invention, that hasn’t stopped El Rey Azteca Restaurant from celebrating! Each Tuesday, you can visit El Rey Azteca for $2.50 tacos and $5 margaritas. Depending on your preference, you can order classic Mexican or you can gravitate toward food with a more Tex-Mex influence.

Zack’s Taco Shack – Tannersville

It’s not difficult to observe Taco Tuesday even in the heart of the Pocono Mountains. You can simply head to Zack’s Taco Shack in Monroe County, where each taco is made fresh on the spot (in addition to other menu items like quesadillas, nachos, and chili). On Taco Tuesday, visit the taco shack for three hard shell tacos, plus a soda, for $10. Choose from chicken, beef, or vegan bean!

Bravo Tex-Mex – Pittston

Every Tuesday at Bravo Tex-Mex Restaurant in Pittston, tacos are just $3 each. You can mix and match from the different taco varieties: birria, pork, chicken, steak, crispy shrimp, as well as a vegan veggie taco.

Leunes’ Bar and Lounge – Honesdale

Tuesdays are special at Leunes’ Bar and Lounge in Wayne County, because that’s when this neighborhood tavern in the heart of historic Honesdale serves tacos! (Other days, you can order from a limited menu of bar food.) The taco options served on Tuesdays often change and are always interesting. For instance, the bar recently had coconut shrimp tacos and wonton chicken tacos on the Taco Tuesday menu.
