Did you know that National Wine Day is on May 25? Talk about an event worth raising a toast to! While many people associate American wine with California, Pennsylvanians know that you can find vineyards and wineries right here in the Keystone State.
In fact, Pennsylvania’s diverse terrain means that many different types of grapes can be cultivated here, leading to a deliciously varied family of Pennsylvania wines. With over 300 wineries to choose from, you’ll have a lot more options than “red or white?”
As you’re planning your Wine Day adventure, have a look at some of these great Pennsylvania wineries and vineyards worth visiting (and find out which wines are our favorite). Cheers!
Adams County Winery
251 Peach Tree Road, Orrtanna
Just outside of Gettysburg, this 75-acre winery, headquartered in an 1860 farmhouse, has been a Pennsylvania favorite since 1975. Visitors to the vineyard can wander through their Certified Wildlife Habitat gardens, savor a meal at their bistro, and enjoy one of two guided tours, both of which include a tasting of some of Adams County’s favorite wines plus a souvenir glass to take home.
Don’t have time for a tour? Stop by one of Adams County’s two wine shops, in either Orrtanna at the winery, or in nearby Gettysburg, to grab a bottle to enjoy at home!
Our Pick: Tears of Gettysburg, an award-winning sweet white blend made at Adams County Winery since 1988, and one of the oldest wines in Pennsylvania.
Blue Ridge Estate Vineyard and Winery
239 Blue Ridge Road, Saylorsburg
High on a hilltop in the scenic Pocono Mountains, you’ll find Blue Ridge Estate Vineyard and Winery. Since 2010, this family-owned wine estate has been serving up wine in scenic surroundings, which guests are welcome to wander at their leisure.
Come by on a Saturday for “The Underground Experience” wine tasting, or check out the seasonal set menus offered in the Underground Room — wine pairings included, naturally.
Our Pick: The Godfather, Blue Ridge’s signature red, aged in bourbon barrels, and made in small batches of only 75 bottles at a time.
Folino Estate Winery

Rolling hills with vines planted in neat rows, a cozy farmhouse full of good food and wine that Nonna would approve of … is this Italy?
Nope, still Pennsylvania! Folio Estate and Winery prides itself on bringing a little bit of La Dolce Vita to the Keystone State with handmade wine, seasonal Italian fare at their restaurant, and even a cozy boutique hotel at their “Vintners Inn”! Stop by for a getaway, a wine tasting, or even a glass of wine and a game of bocce ball in their wine garden. Viva Folino!

Crossing Vineyards and Winery

Sorrenti Family Estate Winery, Distillery, and Pizzeria

What to do if only some of your family or friends love wine, but you all like the idea of getting together at a vineyard? Never fear, Sorrenti is here!
This award-winning, family-run Poconos winery is about more than just wine. With an on-site distillery making tasty fruit-based spirits, plus a brick-oven pizzeria that hosts a weekly trivia night and live music every weekend, Sorrenti has a little something for everyone.
Our Pick: Kittatinny Red, a semi-sweet red blend that can be served cold, making it the perfect red for the coming summer.
Brookmere Winery

Since 1983, Brookmere Winery has been bringing wine, food, and rustic getaways at their bed and breakfast to a scenic Central Pennsylvania valley. Just 35 minutes from Penn State University, visitors to Brookmere can make a vacation of their visit, or plan a special occasion including weddings at one of their multiple on-site venues.
