Whether you head to a brewery that makes its own dog treats or to a dog-friendly pizzeria you may have seen on TV, you’ll be able to enjoy a quality slice without leaving man’s best friend behind.
East End Brewing – Pittsburgh
East End Brewing may be a brewery first, but make no mistake that the local favorite takes its pizza seriously. You can grab slices and pies at its locations in Pittsburgh’s Larimer neighborhood and Mt. Lebanon in the South Hills. The Larimer brewpub features a rotating and creative “pizza of the week,” with varieties that may include Korean fried chicken, dill pickle, or pierogi pizza. Traditional pepperoni and cheese options are also available—and every pizza, including the pizza of the week, can be ordered completely vegan. The Mt. Lebanon taproom’s pizza menu offers an even larger selection of specialty pies.
The Larimer brewpub’s spacious outdoor area, filled with picnic tables, is especially welcoming to dogs, and water bowls are available for visiting pups. The Mt. Lebanon location’s outdoor seating area is smaller, but still dog-friendly.
Alfredo’s Cafe – Scranton
Made famous by the popular sitcom “The Office”—in which the restaurant is home to “the good pizza”—Alfredo’s Cafe is also friendly to good boys and girls: the dogs of Scranton. A covered outdoor patio—complete with heat lamps for cold weather—is a cozy space for humans to enjoy Alfredo’s famous thick and chewy pan pizza (similar to Old Forge-style pizza) with their dogs alongside them. Chestnut Hill Brewing Company – Philadelphia
Chestnut Hill Brewing Company, located in Philadelphia’s Germantown, is not a dedicated pizzeria, but the brewery and beer garden is certainly one of the best places to eat pizza with your dog year-round. (Unsurprisingly, its logo features a dog!)
On the pizza front, Chestnut Hill Brewing Company offers 12 different styles of wood-fired, Neapolitan pizza made with quality ingredients, including vegan options and seasonal options like summer’s BBQ peach pie. And on the dog-friendly front, the brewing company offers house-made, spent-grain dog biscuits and pup cups to dogs in the beer garden, as well as water bowls and even designated places to secure leashes.
Plus, in addition to happy hour, Chestnut Hill Brewing Company hosts Yappy Hour on Thursdays in the beer garden, where your dogs can enjoy dog biscuits, pup cups, and—wait for it—pup cup flights.
In Riva – Philadelphia
Italian for “along the banks,” In Riva is an Italian restaurant along the banks of the Schuylkill River in East Falls. The scenic view—plus delicious Neapolitan pizza and other rustic Italian eats—can be enjoyed by both you and your pup, as dogs are always welcome on In Riva’s outdoor patio, which is open year-round. Plus, (adorable, In Riva-blazoned) water bowls are provided!
UnCommon Pizza – Lititz (Lancaster County)
UnCommon Pizza has a large menu of wings, sandwiches, and of course, delicious pizza. You can order a number of traditional pies as well as fun versions like taco or breakfast pizzas. The restaurant also serves its pizza flavors in calzones and strombolis.
And UnCommon Pizza in Lancaster County’s Lititz doesn’t just welcome dogs on the patio, but it feeds them too! The menu includes a separate section specifically for our canine pals, who can enjoy a “quarter hounder” (a beef or turkey patty) or “bow wow chicken” (grilled chicken breast) as well as sweet treats—a pup cup (that’s a cup of whipped cream) or homemade doggy ice cream.
Little E’s Pizzeria – Greensburg (Westmoreland County)
Some of the best pizza—and good times with your dog—in Westmoreland County can be had at Little E’s Pizzeria in Greensburg. The pizzeria has a large outdoor covered patio that is open year-round, with fans in the summer and heaters in the winter. Dogs are provided with water bowls, and it’s not uncommon for your canine pal to also be served a free treat. Little E’s is not only inclusive to dogs, but also humans, as the menu has vegan and gluten-free options. Don’t miss adding the whole garlic cloves to your pizza!
Doggie’s Pub – State College (Centre County)
With a name like Doggie’s Pub, of course this State College restaurant welcomes our furry friends! The college town pub, open to adults 21 and older, has a large outdoor beer garden and is known for its pizza, drinks, and live music. Pups are welcome in the beer garden, and Doggie’s staff love when dogs visit; the pub’s four-legged guests are treated to water bowls and treats, and their pictures can sometimes be featured in the dog gallery! Doggie’s even sells its own branded water bowls and dog bandanas.
However, note that dogs are only allowed until 7 p.m. and there may be further restrictions on busy Penn State game days—so check social media in advance before bringing your doggy companion along.
Poverty Knob Farmhouse Ales – Waterford (Erie County)
Poverty Knob Farmhouse Ales isn’t a designated pizza restaurant, but it makes its own pizza and invites dogs to enjoy the lovely space of Port Farms, just as humans do. The outdoor area is ideal for dogs—but so is the indoor space, originally built for potato storage but now a brewery and taproom, because dogs are welcome there too! The brewery regularly hosts live music, games, and other family-friendly (and dog-friendly!) events, making Poverty Knob Farmhouse Ales more of a destination than just a place to stop for pizza and a drink.
Marley’s Brewery & Grille – Bloomsburg (Columbia County)
Marley’s Brewery & Grille in Bloomsburg is a craft brewery with a seasonal, dog-friendly patio. The grille side of the restaurant and brewery has a large menu of comfort food, including a selection of brick oven pizza. The brick oven menu, available every day but Tuesdays (and Mondays, when the restaurant is closed), includes savory flatbreads, stromboli, a calzone, a stuffed Reuben roll, and of course, traditional pizza. Emphasizing its pet-friendliness, a number of Marley’s brews—and its logo—are inspired by dogs.
