Coconino County’s IT achievements: Top 10 for five years running

Coconino County has once again been recognized for its achievements in digital technology. Here’s why.

Coconino County has been recognized as one of the top counties in the United States for its digital technology practices, according to the 2024 National Association of Counties (NACo) Digital Counties Survey.

This marks the fifth consecutive year that the county’s Information Technology Department has placed in the Top 10 within the up to 150,000 population category. The recognition, which honors achievements in areas such as cybersecurity, data-driven government, and continuous innovation, comes from the Center for Digital Government.

SeeClickFix App

The county has been particularly noted for its citizen assistance app, SeeClickFix, which utilizes customized GIS data to allow citizens to open service requests based on their location. This system integrates with the Public Works Department and Flood Control District, providing real-time updates to citizens and a comprehensive work history within the application.

The platform also captures daily requests for county assistance and information, offering quick links to essential resources during emergency and non-emergency situations.

Other Digital Achievements

Among other digital transformation initiatives, Coconino County received a $1,000,000 grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission to digitize historic records. This project, matched with approximately $500,000 in county funding, aims to modernize records for the Recorder’s Office, converting microfilm and bound books into digital formats. The initiative is expected to be completed by October 2025, with an estimated conversion of 633,334 documents and 1.9 million images.

Additionally, the county has enhanced its pre-defined evacuation maps, creating an interactive tool that integrates with the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs. This publicly accessible map allows users to view the status of evacuation zones and search for specific addresses, helping both responders and the public during emergency events. The collaborative effort involves the IT Department, Sheriff’s Office, GIS, and Emergency Management departments.

The Center for Digital Government, a division of e.Republic, focuses on technology policy and best practices in state and local government. Coconino County’s ongoing dedication to digital innovation and public service has been consistently recognized, highlighting the commitment of its staff and leadership in providing advanced solutions to its communities.
