The Airports Council International recently announced that DFW International Airport was the best in North America. Here are the details.

The Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport just earned some major bragging rights thanks to Airports Council International (ACI). For the fourth year in a row, DFW earned the organization’s 2025 Airport Service Quality Customer Experience Award. ACI looks at over 50 contributing factors when determining this honor, like:

  • Efficiency of the flight check-in process
  • Cleanliness
  • Shopping and food choices
  • Airport ambience

DFW earned high marks in customer surveys assessing each of these elements—an impressive feat when you consider that around 87 million passengers travel through the airport each year. The Chief Revenue Officer and Executive Vice President of DFW International Airport, Ken Buchanan, released a statement about the news. “Even as we modernize and expand, our commitment to delivering an exceptional experience never wavers. This recognition shows that our customers feel that dedication,” he wrote.

The award comes during a multi-billion dollar expansion currently underway at the airport.

DFW International Airport is currently undergoing a $12 billion expansion

Things at the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport will look a lot different over the next few years as it undergoes a multi-billion dollar construction project. Existing terminal exits and entrances are being redone, and an entirely new terminal is being added with 31 gates in that wing (no pun intended). The latest addition, Terminal F, is projected to open in 2027 and will be operated by American Airlines. It’s the first new terminal DFW has built in over 20 years.

As for the other areas of design, Terminal C will receive a significant overhaul given that it’s the oldest area at DFW International. It originally opened in 1974 and has not undergone any major repairs in the last 50-ish years. The airport’s Executive Vice President of Infrastructure and Development, Mohamed Chakras, spoke with NBCDFW about the exciting project. “We are the economic engine of North Texas — [this] region is growing. We need to make sure that we can be their true gateway to the world. Our airline partners, American Airlines, are growing. They have confidence in DFW. We are their mega hub,” Chakras said.

He went on to say, “And for our local domestic guests, they need an airport that is worthy of them. All that derives us and gives us the motivation to do all the stuff that we’re doing. We want to phase it but we want to do it at the fastest time possible. We know we cannot skip a minute and we have to modernize this airport and that’s the undertaking that this airport has done and committed to.”

As of writing, the DFW International Airport is expecting to increase its total number of annual passengers from 87 million to 100 million by 2030, when much of the expansion will likely be completed.
