From tamales to cremation: Here are the bills Hobbs just signed into law
On March 29, 2024, Governor Katie Hobbs of Arizona took decisive legislative action on a range of bills. Among the significant decisions included signing various bills into law while vetoing just one.
Here’s what she signed into law
Governor Hobbs signed a total of 44 bills into law, covering a broad spectrum of topics, from correctional facilities to state construction projects and group home investigations. In addition, the governor sanctioned bills related to virtual credit cards as a payment method, monument and memorial repair fund, and revisions to adult education programs. Other bills signed covered subjects such as pharmacy audit procedures, real estate licensing and administration, child fatality review teams, and claims related to the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS).
The bills signed also encompassed income tax withholding for retirement distributions, police report time and cost requirements, sex offender registration and school notification, unlawful restrictive covenants, and reporting requirements for ombudsmen in corrections. A bill on prior felony convictions and aggravated DUI was also signed into law.
Additional legislation signed by the governor pertained to utilities, food preparation and sale (AKA “The tamale bill“), joint training for surveyors and providers, and the repeal of dentists’ civil penalty for registration, cremation, self-storage facilities, emergency services, the continuation of the Department of Homeland Security, the scope of practice for medical assistants, and interior improvements in condominiums.
