Happy hour in Manchester just got even better with these five deals. Here are all the ways you can save.

To trace the origins of happy hour, we first have to travel back in time to the 19th century when the term was originally used. Back then, “happy hour” referred to women-led social clubs that featured dancing, quilting, game playing, dining, and organized lectures. It wasn’t until 1913 that the phrase began to take on the meaning we most commonly associate with it today.

Aboard the US Navy’s USS Arkansas battleship, sailors organized themselves into a group known as the Happy Hour Social. These men hosted events twice a week for entertainment—they’d get together to play songs, host boxing matches, and watch movies. Because the US Navy prohibited alcohol on board ships until 1914, these gatherings were organized solely to boost morale and encourage bonding.

In a funny turn of events, happy hour didn’t include alcohol until Prohibition began in 1920. Once it became illegal for people to consume it, everyone wanted to find a way to unwind and share a few drinks with their friends. Speakeasies, AKA businesses where alcohol was illegally sold, grew in popularity, and so did the concept of happy hour.

Prohibition ended in 1933, and over the course of those 13 years, it became commonplace for happy hour to start at noon. Nowadays, the celebration is most often scheduled for mid-to-late evening, which corresponds nicely with the time of day people typically get off work.

Happy hour in Manchester takes place at several restaurants and bars around the city, but we’ll cover five of the best available deals. The atmosphere of these places may differ from old-school speakeasies, but who doesn’t love saving money on food and drinks once or twice (or three times) a week?

1. The Goat

Address: 50 Old Granite St

The Goat hosts Happy Hour from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Bacon Buckets are available half off, as are all domestic beers. If you’re asking yourself, “what’s a Bacon Bucket?,” the answer is relatively straightforward: It’s a bucket of thick cut bacon served with a side of sriracha maple sauce for dipping. It typically costs $12 outside the happy hour window.

On NFL game days, Budweiser and Bud Light cost $3 each, and Nutrl costs $4 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Additional daily specials are offered for anyone looking for a deal but not interested in drinking alcohol. On Mondays, The Goat offers two-for-one burgers and line dancing, and on Tuesdays, it has two-for-one burgers and karaoke.

You can find a complete list of daily deals here.

2. 900 Degrees Neapolitan Pizzeria
