The Susan G. Komen 3-Day walk for breast cancer research comes to DFW next weekend. Here’s everything you need to know.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and next weekend, the Susan G. Komen 3-Day walk to raise money for breast cancer research is being held in Dallas-Fort Worth. The annual fundraiser will see hundreds of participants walking in community with one another around the two cities.
Residents may register in teams or as individuals to participate in either a 1-Day, 2-Day, or 3-Day experience. The full 3-Day fundraiser takes place Friday, October 23 through Sunday, October 25. However, the exact dates you’re required to be there vary depending on how many days you’re committing to—more on that below.
As participants in the event you’ll be required to raise a certain amount of money that corresponds with the number of days you’ll be walking. In 2025, roughly 600 DFW residents banded together to raise $2.1 million throughout the course of the 3-Day walk. All of the proceeds raised by the Susan G. Komen foundation will go toward breast cancer research and the quest for a cure.
One walker in last year’s event, Stacy Thoma, told CBS Texas that she had Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer and explained why it was important for her and hundreds of others to show up for the fundraiser. Thoma said, “I walk because it’s just so important to find a cure. It may not save my life, but it’s going to help my kids; it helps their kids. That’s what it’s about, and to support the survivors that beat it, and hopefully, it doesn’t come back again for them.”
She added, “For those of us who are metastatic, this is our lifeline, this is what we need, this is what we want.” It’s a sentiment that echoes the writings on the organization’s website: “There’s no question that the 3-Day is a hard journey, but we all know, it’s not as hard as breast cancer. It’s not as hard as getting bad news at your latest scan. It’s not as hard as saying goodbye.”
How it works
Participation in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day walk is set up in three different options. The first is for the 60-mile, 3-Day route where you’ll be required to raise $2,300. That takes place over the course of the entire weekend, October 23-25. The foundation’s website says, “The route combines the most interesting history and architecture in the city of Dallas with the beauty of the surrounding suburbs.” On Friday and Saturday evening there will be a gathering held at the Sheraton Dallas for everyone to come together and share their experiences.
The 40-mile, 2-Day route requires you to raise $1,800 and takes place Saturday-Sunday, October 24-25. This option sees you and other walkers traveling “through charming Fort Worth with breaks and lunch along the route.” 2-Day participants are welcomed to join the Saturday night gathering at the Sheraton Dallas for community and conversation.
Finally, the 1-Day, 20-mile route requires each participant to raise $750 and is scheduled for Sunday, October 25. You’ll be walking alongside individuals who have been taking part in the event all weekend long, and everyone is invited to attend the Finish Line Festival and Closing Ceremony that evening.
