It’s National Blood Donor Month: Here’s where to give blood in DFW
Discover where to give blood in Dallas-Forth Worth during National Blood Donor Month in January (and beyond!).
If you were offered the chance to sit in a chair for 10 minutes and save several lives, would you do it? That’s exactly what blood donation is. According to the American Red Cross, someone in the U.S. needs blood and/or platelets every two seconds. And if you’re wondering where to give blood in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, there are plenty of donor centers and pop-up blood drives available.
Now’s your chance to help. January is National Blood Donor Month, a time to spread awareness about the life-saving importance of blood donation, which takes just 10-15 minutes and can be done every 56 days. The blood is used for trauma patients, cancer treatments, chronic illnesses, blood disorders, pregnancy or childbirth complications, and other medical needs.
Your donation can help save lives immediately. Just look at new mom Reihaneh, who needed enough blood to fill more than half her body after giving birth, according to the American Red Cross. Can you imagine? Because the hospital had blood on the shelf, she was able to get a life-saving transfusion—and now she’s a blood donor too.

According to the American Red Cross, all blood types are needed for donation, but they are especially in need of blood with types O, A negative, and B negative. You must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, and generally be in good health to donate.

Other Ways to Give Back
Even if you aren’t able to donate blood, there are other ways you can give back.
You can volunteer with the Red Cross or another organization to help welcome blood donors, deliver blood to the hospital, or assist with any of their other efforts in disaster response, health education, or community service. You can also host your own blood drive for your community or organization, or donate money to support blood services or other humanitarian needs the Red Cross helps with.
Carter BloodCare also has a need for monetary donations and volunteer services.
No matter how you choose to help or give back, don’t forget to share your story and encourage others to participate in donating blood during National Blood Donor Month and beyond!
