The City of Flint has designated May 2025 “Love Your City Month.” The campaign will feature free supplies, garbage collection, and events.

In a major push to revitalize its neighborhoods and public spaces, the City of Flint has designated May 2025 as a month-long beautification initiative. According to the official announcement, the comprehensive cleanup campaign, dubbed “Love Your City Month,” aims to transform Flint’s landscape through coordinated community action and enhanced municipal services.

Free resources empower community cleanup efforts

Residents interested in participating in the citywide beautification effort can obtain free supplies through Keep Genesee County Beautiful. The organization is providing garbage bags, yard waste bags, and cotton work gloves to support cleanup activities in public areas. Those interested should contact Keep Genesee County Beautiful at 810-767-9696 at least 10 days before their planned cleanup date.

Special collection weeks target different cleanup needs

The city has organized three dedicated collection weeks to help residents dispose of various types of waste:

Large Item Collection (May 5-9)

Residents can dispose of bulky items, with pickup occurring on regular collection days. Items must be at the curb by 7 a.m. The service excludes certain items, such as refrigerators, air conditioners, tires, and construction materials.

Bagged Trash Collection (May 12-16)

Unlimited bagged waste collection, with bags not exceeding 50 pounds, will be picked up on regular collection days.

Brush Collection (May 19-23)

Residents can dispose of unlimited bundled brush, provided the bundles meet specific requirements: a maximum length of 4 feet, branches under 2 inches thick, and a weight of under 50 pounds. Bundles should be secured with rope or twine only.

Stewardship Day & Kids to Park Day

Previously known as Flint River and Community Cleanup Day, Stewardship Day brings together community members to clean up the Flint River and its watershed. There are various locations in Flint and the broader Genesee County, and the event takes place from 9 a.m. to noon on May 17.

For more information, including how to sign up to volunteer, please check out the flyer and website.

May 17 is also Kids to Park Day. According to the website, “The primary focus of the day will be on Stewardship Day, so bring your kiddos out to learn what it means to be a good steward of our green spaces and waterways by helping with the cleanup efforts. There will be kid-friendly activities for when the little ones need a break. There will also be activity gift bags on a first come first serve basis provided by MDHHS for children.”

Neighborhood engagement opportunities

Block clubs and community organizations are encouraged to lead neighborhood cleanup initiatives. The Office of Blight Elimination (810-237-2090) is coordinating these efforts and accepting applications from interested groups.

For residents seeking additional information, Priority Waste (855-927-8365) can address questions about curbside pickup, while the Waste Service Coordinator (810-410-1134) handles general inquiries about the campaign.
