Russian manicures in Florida: What to know and where to go
Russian manicures stand out because of their beauty, design, and attention to detail—but that’s also what makes it controversial. Here’s what you need to know.
Do you ever wonder why you keep hearing the words “Russian Manicure” over and over again? That’s because the technique that has become popular all over Europe for its beauty and its immaculate and precise finish, is fast gaining traction in the U.S. thanks, in great part, to TikTok.
After all, it’s hard to miss the influencers showing off their long, impeccable nails with arty designs that seem to go on forever! And if you’ve seen and admired the “handiwork” of these manicurists on social media, we’re sure you’ll want to know more about this unique, exotic-sounding method.
About Russian Manicures
Believed to have originated in Russia, the appropriately named Russian Manicure involves using an electric file or drill to remove any previous polish or gel on the fingernails. The nail technicians also focus on the cuticles, working to remove the extra cuticle on the nail bed, making the nail appear longer and neater. Traditionally, this approach would involve cutting the cuticle.
The result? An immaculate and precise finish that some claim lasts longer than traditional manicures. It is estimated that a Russian manicure generally lasts about 3-4 weeks, depending on how fast your nails grow.
It all sounds perfect, right? But before you opt for a Russian mani, you need to be aware that as gorgeous as it can look, it is not without its pros and cons.
That’s because the cuticle work can come with risks. Removing the cuticle on the nail bed can introduce bacteria, increasing your risk of infection. Cutting or trimming the cuticle can also result in bleeding and pain. In fact, it is not recommended to try at home, and even when done at a reputable nail salon, it is considered risky.
Additionally, experts warn that regular abrasion to the proximal nail fold can cause hyperpigmentation—especially for darker skin—and the build-up of skin in response to constant injury or irritation. For these reasons alone, many medical experts recommend avoiding manicures altogether.
However, if your heart is set on a Russian Manicure, there are some things you need to consider. Like with any nail salon treatment, it’s important that you take the time to find a technician who is licensed in your state and works out of a salon that properly sanitizes tools and workspaces, especially between uses. Again, for your safety, it is important that you confirm that the salon/technician is licensed and has all the proper certifications before scheduling a mani or pedi.
Now, without further ado, here are six salons across Florida that offer Russian Manicures.
