There’s still time to participate in DFW’s indie bookstore crawl

Through the month of August, 24 bookstores in the DFW area are hosting a bookstore crawl. Here’s what you need to know.

The North Texas Indie Bookstore Crawl officially kicked off at the beginning of August, but don’t worry, there’s still plenty of time to participate. The monthlong adventure officially wraps on August 31, and you can visit as many of the stops along the crawl between now and then as you’d like to visit. First, though: What even is an indie bookstore crawl? I’m glad you asked.

Bookstore crawls are events (typically organized by independent bookstores, like the ones in Dallas-Forth Worth) where people are encouraged to visit numerous stores during a specific period of time. Most often, these crawls are designed to last one day, but everything is bigger and better in Texas 💅. The DFW crawl features 24 participating bookstores and serves as an exciting way to support local businesses, discover new stories, and connect with like-minded members of the community.

Is there a prize for participating?

Now that we’ve gone over what a bookstore crawl is, let’s dive into the specifics of this one. In addition to visiting new shops and adding even more books to your TBR list, there’s a bonus benefit to participating in the DFW event. When you visit your first location on the map, you’ll get a passport where you can collect stamps—one for each of the 24 participating stores—over the next few weeks.

Once you’ve completed your personal collection (you don’t need to get all 24), return your passport to Talking Animal Books in Grapevine by August 31. If you’re unable to bring yours back to the store, don’t worry! You can submit your stamps via email by contacting katyandval@gmail.com. After submitting your passport, you’ll be automatically entered into a raffle to win one of three gift cards to bookshop.org

Visiting numerous independent bookstores, picking up titles you’ve been dying to read, and then being entered into a raffle to win even more books? Yeah, that sounds like every booklover’s dream—except it’s better than that, because it’s reality.
