Top 8 spots to get mocktails in Reno during Dry January

Kick off the New Year booze-free with an array of non-alcoholic drink options and mocktails in Reno.

Reno is expecting a dry January, but it has nothing to do with the weather.

Dry January, an annual campaign to voluntarily abstain from alcohol consumption for the first month of the year, kicks off on January 1; and since cocktails are off limits, it’s the perfect time to try mocktails in Reno.

Bars and breweries throughout the Biggest Little City will have spiritless spirits and alcohol-free beer on their January menus, though to be fair, many of these establishments serve liquorless libations 365 days of the year.

From a family-friendly brewery to a casino bar to a swank ultra lounge, here are some of the best spots for drinking mocktails in Reno.

1. Rum Sugar Lime

1039 S. Virginia Street

This Reno tiki bar’s core flavor profile is right in its name: Rum Sugar Lime. The tropical bar serves handcrafted cocktails and mocktails inspired by the classic daiquiri. To escape to paradise without any booze, try the Spray Tan (Luxardo cherry juice, lime, pineapple, and Lyre’s Cane Spirit) or the Coldwave (pineapple, half-and-half, lime, and ginger). Alternatively, you could opt for a non-alcoholic beer. All cocktails, alcoholic or not, are created with fresh, hand-pressed juices and house-made syrups.

2. Black Rabbit Mead Company

401 E. Fourth Street

Located in downtown Reno’s Brewery District, Black Rabbit Meads Company is a family-friendly taproom serving cider-style meads made with locally-sourced honey. Mocktails are on the menu all year-round, including the Holy Ghost Fire (hibiscus, apple cider vinegar), Lasting Thyme (cherry, thyme), and the SoulSoul (ginger, turmeric). Last Dry January, the meadery collaborated with local leaders in the non-alcoholic movement to throw a dry party every week, offering an expanded mocktail menu.

3. Terrace Lounge

2707 S. Virginia Street

Located in the center of the Peppermill Resort Spa Casino, the Terrace Lounge has a rotating seasonal menu of handcrafted cocktails and mocktails for those who want to sip without spirits in Reno. Choose from several options, such as a non-alcoholic twist on Cucumber Ranch Water (non-alcoholic tequila, cucumber water, lime, club soda) or the delicious Nectarine Sweet Tea (house-made nectarine syrup, house-made honey simple, freshly brewed tea). Mocktails are also available at the Peppermill’s spa, Spa Toscana.

4. 4th Street Brewery and Coffee Bar

1126 E. Fourth Street

A sober bar for sober people since 2024, 4th Street Brewery offers everything a regular bar offers, except the alcohol. You’ll find coffee, tea, and non-alcoholic beverages, including mocktails and zero-proof beer, plus pool, arcade games, and other diversions. Sip on an alcohol-free Blueberry fauxjito, Bloody Lary, or a Nadamichelada in a cozy bar environment where the only thing anyone is drunk on is life.

5. Death and Taxes

26 Cheney Street

Death & Taxes is a lush cocktail bar and bottle shop with a gothic speakeasy vibe. The bar is focused on rare and sought-after whiskey, but that doesn’t mean the bartenders aren’t just as concentrated on crafting your Zero-proof drink. Mocktails on the menu include: Ginger (house ginger beer, vanilla, orange, and lime), Fruit (strawberry, lemon, macadamia nut,  and pineapple), and Basil (basil, elderflower, and lemon).

6. Centro Midtown

236 California Avenue

A chef-helmed restaurant in Midtown, Centro offers small plates and a big drink menu, including mocktails. The menu includes the Basil Orange Creamsicle (Cara cara orange, vanilla bean, basil, and sparkling water), Pina Colada Fizz (coconut milk, kaffir lime, pineapple juice, and sparkling water), and Figgy Chai Hot Tea (fig puree, coconut milk, chai tea, and cinnamon), just to name a few.

7. Pignic Pub & Patio

235 Flint Street

Let loose at this family-friendly community grill yard and sports bar, located a block from the Truckee River and Wingfield Park. Pignic has beer, curated cocktails, and gastropub-style food. You can also gather around a grill or a fire pit with a mocktail like City of Page (Lyre’s Dark Cane non-alcoholic spirit, Lyre’s Aperitivo Rosso non-alcoholic spirit, Liquid Alchemist Passionfruit and Lime) or How The West Was Won (Lyre’s American malt non-alcoholic whiskey, Cocktail and Sons spiced syrup, and Fee Brothers black walnut bitters).

8. Jupiter Red

822 S. Virginia Street

A fancy cocktail lounge and patio in the Midtown District, Jupiter Red is known for its upscale vibe, sleek service, and innovative cocktails, including VIP bottle service. Mocktails: Blueberry Mint Crush (blueberry, mint, lime juice, mineral water), Strawberry Refresher (strawberry, agave, coconut spicy), and Pineapple Margarita (pineapple, lime juice, jalapeño, agave, lime soda water).
