Oh, and we can’t forget leaf-peeping to see all of the pretty fall colors; after all, we’ll miss them when winter descends and nature goes dormant until spring.

Luckily, many places across our beautiful state provide easy and affordable access to many, if not all, of these whimsical activities. Looking to select the perfect pumpkin, walk through a corn maze, chow on apple-cider donuts, and more? We’ve curated some of the coolest corn mazes in Iowa to give you your best shot at a perfect fall. So, lace up your boots and get to steppin’ because these corn mazes aren’t going to solve themselves. 

1. Pumpkinville & Cornmaze

Address: 618 Center Ave South, Mitchellville, Iowa 50169

Hours: Tuesday-Thursday: 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; Friday-Saturday: 10 a.m.-8 p.m.; Sunday: 10 a.m.-7 p.m.

Pumpkinville & Cornmaze is the go-to fall destination in Mitchellville, and it’s clear to see why. In addition to pumpkin-picking, guests can choose from two corn mazes to peruse at their leisure: a “large maze” that’s more than 15 acres in size and a kid-friendly “mini maze” that only has an estimated finish time of 15 minutes. With two convenient options, Pumpkinville & Cornmaze offers fun for the whole family. Plus, you can participate in campfires here for all of your s’mores needs (and, yes, in our opinion, s’mores are a need, not a want). Grab some decorative gourds or corn on your way out, and you’re bound to have a beautiful rest of your fall after completing one of the best corn mazes in Iowa.

2. Deal’s Orchard

Address: 1102 244th St, Jefferson, IA 50129

Hours: Monday-Sunday: 9 a.m.-6 p.m.

Jefferson is surrounded by farmland, but for a perfect autumnal experience, you need look no further than Deal’s Orchard. This beloved local attraction is home to myriad fun activities, including hayrides and family-friendly games like pumpkin tic-tac-toe, football toss, and a corn pool. But, of course, one of the stars of the show is the corn maze. It’s big enough to keep you hooked and test you without making you lose patience, and when seen from an aerial POV, you can see that the overall design features cute bees and “2025” cut out of it. When you’re done with one of the most fun corn mazes in Iowa, you get to swing by the bakery and indulge in your favorite fall treat. It doesn’t get much better than that—or the ample parking available on the premises. Open every day of the week, Deal’s Orchard is a must-visit for locals each year when the leaves change shades.

3. Howell’s Greenhouse & Pumpkin Patch

Hours: Monday-Sunday: 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Howell’s Greenhouse & Pumpkin Patch is another of the exciting corn mazes in Iowa that offer more than just a jaunt through towering stalks, though you definitely don’t want to miss out on the maze. Rather, you’ll want to do the maze in addition to taking in the beautiful mixed flower patch, finding your way through the obstacle course, observing the venue’s adorable goats, admiring the expansive sunflower patch, and, naturally, checking out the proudly grown pumpkins. Like Deal’s Orchard, Howell’s also has a corn pool for anyone feeling extra seasonally inclined, and there are various foods and treats to be sampled as you sip on your sweet fall day. 

4. Harvestville Farm

Address: 1977 Highway 2, Donnellson, Iowa 52625

Hours: Until Sep. 27: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. from Monday-Saturday & 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sunday; Sep. 28-Oct. 27: 10 a.m.-7 p.m. from Monday-Saturday & 11 a.m.-7 p.m.; Oct. 28-Oct. 31: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

We’ve learned by this point that corn mazes in Iowa are essentially institutions in the fall, and Harvestville Farm continues that trend. To be specific, Harvestville Farm boasts a 12-acre corn maze with objects like a hot-air balloon and phrases like “20 years” and “Harvestville Farm” etched out of it. It’s no tiny adventure—and this commitment to the farm and its activities is present in everything Harvestville does. Harvestville has been bringing the fun to the farm for decades, and it shows in not only the 35 acres of land on which its pumpkins grow but also the myriad games that guests can enjoy. That’s not even to mention the bonfire rental option or the fact that you can come back after Halloween to pick out your own natural Christmas tree. Ultimately, Harvestville Farm has it all—and Santa, too!

5. Fields of Fun

Address: 3273 400th St, Sioux Center, IA 51250

Hours: Tuesday-Saturday: 10 a.m.-9 p.m.

If you’re in the Sioux Center area, you may already know that Fields of Fun is true to its name. Offering visitors a full autumnal experience, Fields of Fun is a tried-and-true destination if you want to experience one of the most fun corn mazes in Iowa. Get lost in the stalks and let the stars guide you to the finish line, but don’t forget to check out some of this venue’s tasty coffee and baked goods, which are the perfect send-offs for a lovely fall day. Other notable attractions here include the petting zoo, menagerie of pumpkins, a jump pad, local crafts, and more. You can’t go wrong here!

6. Kroul Farms

Address: 245 IA-1, Mt. Vernon, IA 52314

Hours: Monday-Thursday: 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Friday-Sunday: 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Kroul Farms is open year-round, providing guests from Mt. Vernon and faraway alike with top-notch seasonal produce and goods. In the fall, Kroul Farms transforms into an autumn-lover’s paradise. Spooky (in the best way) corn stalks line one of the coolest corn mazes in Iowa, and pumpkins add to the autumnal appeal. The corn maze spans three acres and is enough to really get you ready for sweet treats and a pumpkin-carving session with Disney’s “Halloweentown” in the background—aka everything you need to fully get into the seasonal spirit. The cute farm animals add extra charm, and with that, Kroul Farms is a dream of an annual tradition. 

7. Bloomsbury Farm

Address: 3260 69th St, Atkins, IA 52206

Hours: Friday: 1 p.m.-5:30 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday: 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

Bloomsbury Farm might have the most limited operating hours on this list, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t also have one of the coolest corn mazes in Iowa. From Sep. 12 onward, it’s open for the fall season, tantalizing visitors with not only its 10-acre corn maze but also its seasonally appropriate photo ops and mouth-watering drinks and treats. Bloomsbury Farm is essentially an Instagrammer’s heaven, with the corn maze being the perfect spooky backdrop and the gourmet drinks boasting ample appeal thanks to their dripping caramel and soft, crunchy donuts on top. Everyone on the grid will wish they had the day you had. 

8. Grandma’s Pumpkin Patch

Address: 28366 300th St, Bloomfield, IA 52537

Hours: Monday: 2 p.m.-7 p.m.; Thursday-Friday: 2 p.m.-7 p.m.; Saturday: 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; Sunday: 2 p.m.-7 p.m.

Have you ever heard an attraction sound as charming as Grandma’s Pumpkin Patch? The name alone sounds inviting, like each guest will feel like family. And that’s precisely the vibe at Grandma’s Pumpkin Patch, which brings the Bloomfield area one of the coolest corn mazes in Iowa. Head there at sunset, and you’re in for a real fiery spectacle, crimson sun meeting dry, silky husks. That said, the fun only begins there, not ends. From Sep. 13 onward, visitors can check out a full pumpkin patch, purchase yummy food, and walk the Pollinator Path. Plus, there’s a kids’ zone for all the younguns to let loose. Like all of the other options on this list, there’s fun for the full family here, and you’ll be happy no matter which corn maze you find yourself at.
