WMUR’s Spirit of Giving Food Drive Invites Community Support Dec. 12–14

WMUR’s Spirit of Giving Food Drive runs from December 12-14. Here are all the details.

WMUR’s official Spirit of Giving Food Drive takes place this weekend, December 12-14, at Walmart, Shaw’s, and Hannaford stores throughout the state. All New Hampshire locations for these chains will have Spirit of Giving displays to participate. Proceeds will go to the New Hampshire Food Bank, which will be able to provide about two meals for every $1.28 in donations.

According to the news station, 1 in 10 people (which includes 1 in 7 children) experienced food insecurity in the state in 2024, meaning they didn’t have consistent access to nutritious, affordable food. The New Hampshire Food Bank helps close the gap by providing millions of meals each year through 400 partner agencies like soup kitchens, senior centers, children’s programs, homeless shelters, and food pantries.

Around 60% of the food distributed through those partners is supplied by the New Hampshire Food Bank, which accepts donations year-round in addition to what it receives through the Spirit of Giving Food Drive. If you’d like to participate, simply visit any Hannaford, Walmart, or Shaw’s store and find the Spirit of Giving display.

If you’re unable to make it out to one of these locations over the weekend, you can donate to those in need in several other ways, which we’ll go over below.

Ways to donate, or to receive assistance

Donations to the New Hampshire Food Bank can be made online at the following link. Gift amounts are listed in specific increments, which equate to the number of meals they’ll provide, such as $50 to provide 100 meals. However, you can donate whatever amount you can afford, as even a few dollars make a significant difference.

For those in need of food assistance this holiday season or throughout the year, here’s a list of food pantries, soup kitchens, and other programs in New Hampshire, along with addresses and contact information in case you have questions ahead of time.
