Hitting up a regular coffee shop is already a treat, but add cute, fuzzy, and sweet animals to the mix, and you’ve got yourself a unique, over-the-top outing. Animal cafes have been popping up all over the world; they’re viral staples of Tokyo’s tourist attractions—we can’t wait to visit a capybara cafe eventually—but did you know you can find them right here at home, too?
In the U.S., most animal cafes house cats. (Sorry to anyone who wants to pet capybaras while sipping a warm cup o’ joe!) These angels traipse around the dining area as if they own the place because, well, they kind of do. Guests are free to pet them and watch their every move while enjoying their drinks and food.
There’s typically just one rule of thumb at cat cafes: Don’t force yourselves on them. Let them come to you, or be conscious about their body language if you approach them. If a cat’s fur stands up or it begins to hiss, it’s uncomfortable, and you should give it space.
With that established, let’s break down the eight cat cafes in Colorado. With more than a handful of options, there may just be one near you.
1. The Biscuit Factory Cat Lounge

Located in Colorado Springs, The Biscuit Factory Cat Lounge partners with the local cat rescue Happy Cats Haven to help friends of felines make new connections and land kitties in furrever homes. Some cat cafes in Colorado require reservations, but this one luckily does not, though its website says that reservations are “recommended.”
Making a reservation online is easy: You sign a liability waiver to acknowledge that you’re not only going in with good intentions but also understand that it’s a cat cafe, which can come with potential risks, like small nibbles. The entry fee is $11 for an hour in the cafe area, and it comes with your drink of choice, including coffee, tea, soda, and more. If you fall in love with a cat, you can express your interest in potentially adopting it; otherwise, you can simply enjoy your time with some cuddly cats.
2. Comfort & Joy Cat Cafe

Helmed by local cat heroes Sharon Mullally and Carol Lawrence Guinta, Comfort & Joy Cat Cafe is another Colorado Springs institution that hopes to match cats with forever homes. Making a reservation here is crucial, and the process is equally as simple as The Biscuit Factory Cat Lounge’s: Sign a waiver, pay your entry fee ($12 for 50 minutes with the friendly furballs), and enjoy. Here, too, your drink is included in the entry fee.
What’s so fun about Comfort & Joy Cat Cafe is its events. In addition to regular cat cafe hours, you can attend tarot readings, painting sessions, poetry slams, trivia nights, and more—all with cats involved. To have that much fun while supporting a beautiful business is a dream, if you ask us.
3. Denver Cat Company

Two of the cat cafes in Colorado are located in Denver, and the first announces it in its name. Enter Denver Cat Company, a cafe that’s been around for more than a decade and actually is “one of the nation’s oldest cat cafes,” according to its website. Unlike many other cat cafes, Denver Cat Company doesn’t have to work with external rescues. That’s because it founded its own, Denver Cat Rescue, in 2018. Together, the cat cafe and the nonprofit work to place cats in homes, and about 20 cats can be seen in the cafe on any given day, giving prospective adopters a good eye on who’s available.
The entry fee at Denver Cat Company is $15, which is a little higher than some other cat cafes’ prices, but the upside is that there’s no limit on how long you can stay. Drinks and snacks are extra, but with many cats to observe and pet, the higher cost to visit this cat cafe may just be worth it.
4. The Downtown Cat

Sauntering on over to Grand Junction, we’ve got The Downtown Cat. This is one of the more unique cat cafes in Colorado, as it offers grooming services and overnight boarding in addition to housing a cat cafe area. The entire facility is cat-themed, with adorable decor that’s bound to make you smile. Of course, all of the cats present in the cafe are eligible for adoption. The cafe requires a waiver to be signed, but reservations are not required, though they are recommended.
The entry fee at The Downtown Cat is $9 per hour per person. Once inside, you can order barista-crafted drinks—a step up from some cat cafes that only offer hot coffee and tea. The Downtown Cat also partners with local bakeries to offer fresh sweet treats for patrons. We’d take a hot latte and a cinnamon roll with purrfect pals wandering around any day!
5. Elevated Communities Cat Cafe

Hours: Tuesday-Sunday: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
North of Boulder is Longmont, the beautiful home of Elevated Communities Cat Cafe. All of the cat cafes in Colorado are unique, and that is certainly true with Elevated Communities Cat Cafe, which not only helps cats meet loving humans but also employs neurodivergent folks to help them develop and hone skills that can transform their careers.
Hour-long visits to this cat cafe are $12, and there’s an optional $10 add-on if you want to paint with the kitties. Catnip is included if you do! Like many other cafes on this list, walk-ins are welcome, but for peace of mind, you’re better off reserving an hour-long slot ahead of time.
If you live in the area, you’ll also want to follow this cafe on Facebook. Elevated Communities sometimes hosts special events, like free vaccine clinics for dogs and cats, that can help keep local pets safe, healthy, and happy.
6. NoCo Cat Cafe

Head further north from Longmont, and you’ll stumble upon NoCo Cat Cafe, whose website says it’s “northern Colorado’s first cat cafe.” NoCo charges an entry fee of $12 per person, regardless of age. It also accepts walk-ins, but—say it with us—reservations are recommended. There are also fun events held here, like cat yoga for those who want to find some zen while spending time with some new feline friends.
If you want to support NoCo from afar or help promote it around town, you can purchase merch from its online store. At the time of writing, a T-shirt and a sweatshirt are the only items available, but the store mentions that new items, including drinkware and stickers, will be for sale in the future.
7. Purrfect Pause Cat Cafe

National Geographic once called Boulder the “happiest city in the United States,” and we’re not saying it was because the locals love animals so much…but maybe it was! Purrfect Pause Cat Cafe was brought to life by a local named Aleks Talaro in 2022, five years after National Geographic’s feature on this beautiful city, and it has helped countless cats get adopted in partnership with RezDawg Rescue since.
As its name suggests, Purrfect Pause is all about slowing down and enjoying the small moments in life—namely sipping your favorite drink among purrfect company. Entry for adults is $16 ($14 for children, students, and seniors), and you get an hour among the kitties. Reserving space ahead of time is encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome when space is available.
What’s more, like some other cat cafes in Colorado, Purrfect Pause has an online store with adorable merch for those who want to help keep operations going. It’s cute, too!
8. Teddy Cat Cafe

Remember when we said there were two cat cafes in Denver? The second is Teddy Cat Cafe, another cat cafe in Colorado that offers walk-ins but recommends appointments if you want to guarantee that there will be space for you. All of the cats in the cafe hail from local rescues, and they’re all adoptable. An hour of cafe time is $15 for adults ($13 for children and seniors), and it includes a coffee or tea. The cafe’s website also notes that while it charges the entry fees to keep up with running the cafe, adoption fees are entirely handed over to the rescues.
Teddy Cat Cafe is also home to unique cat-themed merchandise. At the time of writing, the cafe is working on an online marketplace, but for now, you can purchase cat-themed clothing items, homewares, and more in-store.
