Jimmy Butler’s Bigface coffee brand is opening a mobile trailer in Cypress. Here’s what to know about the mid-November opening.

NBA superstar and Texas native Jimmy Butler is bringing his caffeine dreams home to Houston next month. On Monday, it was announced that Butler’s Bigface coffee brand would be opening a mobile trailer at Cypress’s Fairfield Market H-E-B, located at 28550 US-290, in mid-November.

The brand director for Butler’s company, Christina Hayes, said the team is looking forward to opening a new location close to where the six-time NBA All-Star grew up in Tomball. Hayes said in a statement, “This same mobile cafe was how we first brought BIGFACE to the people in Miami. Now it’s coming home to Texas. Nothing is more Texas than H-E-B, and to bring BIGFACE home, we wanted to be where people already go every day. For tens of thousands of Texans, that’s H-E-B.”

All beverages handcrafted by Bigface baristas feature coffee beans sourced from Africa, South America, and Central America and are available in both filter-brewing and espresso machine methods.

An exact menu hasn’t been released yet, but previous locations have served a streamlined list of drinks. Lattes, espresso, cappuccinos, cortados, tonics, matchas, and pour overs have all been offered in the past, so it’s probably safe to assume they’ll be on the H-E-B menu, too.

And if you happen to be looking for a new barista or management gig, Bigface is currently in the process of hiring team members ahead of the shop’s opening. Click here to check out all the details and submit your application.

Butler started the business in 2020

Jimmy Butler wasn’t originally planning on creating a coffee empire when he brought an espresso machine along with him to the NBA’s “bubble season” back in 2020. He simply wanted to have some comfort and familiarity in his routine as he lived in a hotel for a few months. Over time, his fellow players started trying out some of his beverages and a demand started to grow.

Butler, ever the businessman, seized the opportunity and charged everyone $20 per drink. After seeing how popular his coffee was, he decided to open his first cafe in Miami, and thus Bigface was born. The 37-year-old’s love of all things java started a few years prior to that though in 2018.

As Butler recalled to Blavity, “When I was in Philly, me and one of my trainers started going to the local cafe, and we would see fans in there, and we’d actually sit down and talk to them over arguably the worst coffee that I’ve had.” He added, “Then, you fast-forward to that 2018 summer, and I was in London, and I’m a creature of habit; I went into this same coffee shop, Caffé Nero in Knightsbridge, and I talked to the exact same lady at the exact same time every morning.”

It was this time in Knightsbridge that made him consider just how essential the act of going to get coffee can be in someone’s daily routine. Butler said, “It just got me to thinking, like, it’s wild what you can find out that you have in common with people when you actually sit down and give it an opportunity to talk, and I was like, ‘Yeah, I like this getting to know people part.’”

Despite his ambitions, he said he didn’t think Bigface would take off the way it has. Butler’s grateful for the opportunity to continue to grow and expand and enter new markets, especially ones so close to home. He said, “I think coffee is for everybody. Everything here is for everybody. [And] if you don’t drink, you can wear this fly-ass merch and still be a part of Bigface.”
