North Texas Giving Day is September 17, but donations are currently open for those who want to help now. Here’s everything you need to know.
North Texas Giving Day is a way for thousands of Texans to “donate and do good.” Over the course of 24 hours, fundraising is done on behalf of thousands of local nonprofits, and pitching in to help is as easy as clicking a few buttons. This link helps you search through participating nonprofits that are currently seeking assistance, but you can also search by category on the North Texas Giving Day website here to look for specific causes.
Whether you want to help a local animal shelter, food bank, arts program, or human rights advocacy group, the month of September is a great time to donate what you can. No donation is too small to make a difference, especially when fundraising takes place for an entire month and culminates in one specific day of designated giving. Last year, $78 million was raised for 3,000 Texas charities from 100,000 people donating.
The CEO and President of Communities Foundation of Texas (the organization that runs North Texas Giving Day), Wayne White, said of the event, “Thousands of nonprofits count on this day to further their missions. As we enter this year’s giving season, we’re reminded that great things happen when we do good, and North Texas Giving Day makes it easy to give.”
How it works
To help make the donations as impactful as possible, the Communities Foundation of Texas, along with North Texas Giving Day donors and sponsors, cover all fees relating to funds received through the Giving Day website. Basically what this means is that technology and transaction fees are covered so 100% of the tax-deductible donation goes directly toward the nonprofit. It’s another bonus to helping the community.
Several forms of payment are accepted when you’re making an online donation, including credit card, Venmo, PayPal, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. In addition to electronic fundraising, several events are scheduled between now and September 17 to bring people together and raise even more money.
A free family-friendly fair, SCHEELS Celebrates North Texas Giving Day, is scheduled for September 12 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at The Lawn at Grandscape 5752 Grandscape Blvd. in The Colony. Then, on September 14 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. is the Downtown Dallas Day of Giving held at Pegasus Plaza on 1500 Main St. in Dallas. That one’s also free to attend and allows you to interact with people from the nonprofits directly to learn more about the work they do and how they help.
