Autumn has arrived, and with it comes a slate of fall festivals. They offer the opportunity to come together as a community for seasonal fun. No matter what part of the commonwealth you’re in, you can still put on your favorite plaid shirt and partake in the excitement.
Ranging from corn mazes and pumpkin patches to seasonal vendor markets and delectable sweets, here is your guide to the best fall festivals happening this year in Virginia.
Coastal Virginia
Historic Phoebus Fall Festival
Date: Oct. 10
Location: Mellen Street
It’s not every day that the streets of Historic Phoebus come alive for a vibrant street fair, so you don’t want to miss the Fall Festival from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
There will be handmade arts and crafts, community exhibits, dancing and live music, and plenty of food and local beer to enjoy.
38th Annual Town Point Virginia Fall Wine Festival
Dates: Oct. 17-18
Location: 113 Waterside Dr., Norfolk, VA 23510
Embrace fall with a variety of local wines on the Norfolk Waterfront during the 38th Annual Town Point Virginia Fall Wine Festival from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days.
Wineries and vineyards from throughout the commonwealth will be participating, including Lake Anna Winery in Spotsylvania and Virginia Mountain Vineyards in Fincastle.
Entertainment will be provided by Brian Sewell & Bennett Walker Wales on Saturday and Lewis McGehee on Sunday.
Single-day tasting tickets, including a souvenir glass and sampling privileges, range from $40 to $45.
Northern Virginia
50th Annual Falls Church Festival

Kickstart the arrival of fall in Northern Virginia by checking out the 50th Annual Falls Church Festival.
Come hungry and thirsty, so you can purchase Taste Tickets to sample various local eateries and quench your thirst at the beer garden.
Kids will enjoy the inflatables and pony rides. Head to the Main Stage for musical acts ranging from Villains and Saints to The Coozies.
Be sure to also participate in the Big 50 Scavenger Hunt by exploring the festival and earning 50th anniversary swag.
Cox Farms Fall Festival
Dates: Sept. 19-Nov. 8
Location: 15621 Braddock Rd., Centreville, VA 20120
With so many activities, plan to spend a whole afternoon at the Cox Farms Fall Festival.
Adults can enjoy some live entertainment and fresh cider while their kids explore the hayrides, cornfields, and pumpkin patches.
Be sure to purchase some fresh apples or pumpkins to take home and bake pies with.
Tickets range from $15 to $30.
Fall Fest
Dates: Sept. 26-Oct. 31
Location: 10800 Baron Cameron Ave., Reston, VA 20190
The Reston Farm Garden Market’s Fall Fest, which is ideal for energetic young ones, will feature everything from an inflatable corn maze and petting zoo to face painting and train rides around the farm.
Be sure to enjoy a cider donut, as well as a pumpkin to take home and carve.
Tickets are $7.23 for adults and $18.62 for children.
Mosaic Fall Fest
Date: Sept. 26-27
Location: 2905 District Ave., Fairfax, VA 22031
If you’re in Fairfax, head to the Mosaic District’s Fall Fest over the Sept. 26 and 27 weekend from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. for some family-friendly autumn fun.
The district will be turned into a lively outdoor festival featuring more than 90 vendors, musical performances, and a range of activities. Tommy McFly, Roxanne Cook, and Pebble of Pearl are among the acts slated to perform.
Fall Wine Festival
Dates: Oct. 9-11
Location: 3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Hwy., Mount Vernon, VA 22121
Raise a glass at George Washington’s estate during the Fall Wine Festival. The event will feature samples of Virginia-made wines with views of the Potomac River.
Tickets, which range from $51 to $66, come with a commemorative wine glass and wine tastings.
Musical entertainment will be provided by Bruce Ewan and the Johnny Burgin Blues Band.
City of Fairfax 50th Annual Fall Festival
Date: Oct. 10
Location: Intersection of University Drive and Sager Avenue
Join the City of Fairfax for its 50th Annual Fall Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The historic downtown will be transformed into a hometown festival featuring more than 400 arts and crafts vendors, food vendors, a beer garden, activities for children, and live entertainment.
Fall Harvest Family Days
Dates: Oct. 24-25
Location: 3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Hwy., Mount Vernon, VA 22121
Head to Mount Vernon for Fall Harvest Family Days to learn what life was like in the 18th century around this time of year. There will be wheat-treading and tobacco harvesting presentations in George Washington’s 16-sided barn, as well as other colonial-era daily life demonstrations, like how fish were salted for preservation.
The days will also include speeches by Washington and those close to him, farm animal meet-and-greets, and 18th-century games.
Tickets are free for children 5 and under, $16 for children 6 to 11, and $30 for adults.
Central Virginia
Blue Ridge Mountain Maze’s Corn Maze & Fall Festival
Dates: Sept. 19-Nov. 8

Blue Ridge Mountain Maze’s Corn Maze & Fall Festival is where people go to get lost in seasonal fun, like corn mazes, campfires, ciders, pumpkin patches, and live music.
Be sure to give the apple slingshot or apple cannon a try in between sips of hot cider and bites of apple cider donuts.
Some of the musical acts include Sisters & Brothers, Cross Roads, and the Ragged Mountain String Band.
Tickets are $15 for those 12 and under and $16 for everyone else.
Fall for Twin Lakes State Park – Fall Festival
Date: Oct. 10

There’s no better place in the commonwealth to take in fall foliage than a state park, so head to the Fall for Twin Lakes State Park – Fall Festival for vibrant leaves and fall fun.
The annual festival features pumpkin decorating, archery, hayrides, live music, and a meet-and-greet with animal ambassadors. Be sure to register for the scarecrow decorating contest. The winner gets a Virginia State Parks gift certificate.
You’ll also be able to do some holiday shopping during the craft marketplace.
The festival runs from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
Goochland County Fall Festival

The Goochland County Fall Festival is a can’t-miss community event. It offers locals the opportunity to come together on a crisp autumn day for seasonal fun and tasty fall favorites.
The event, which is slated from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., features the Ultimate Pumpkin Patch where you can find the perfect pumpkin for carving, a pie baking contest, and a costume contest. There will also be local musical performers and vendors. Make sure you treat yourself to a heavenly slice of pumpkin or apple pie.
Western Virginia
Sinkland Farms Pumpkin Festival
Dates: Sept. 19-Nov. 1

The Sinkland Farms Pumpkin Festival is returning for its 35th year. This seven-weekend event celebrates all things fall, including pumpkins, fall décor, hayrides, a corn maze, live music, local artisans, and food trucks. Be sure to grab a pumpkin to carve for Halloween!
Musical acts range from Makenzie Phipps and Lily Comer to Bob Chew and Attic Static.
Tickets range from $15 to $20 depending on the day. Children 3 and under get in for free.
16th Annual Autumnfest
Location: 300 Fairground Rd., Woodstock, VA 22664
Date: Oct. 3
The 16th Annual Autumnfest offers something for everyone, including craft brews, live music, food trucks, crafts and demonstrations, and traditional Virginia whole-hog barbecue at the Shenandoah County Fairgrounds.
Come thirsty because there will be over 50 beer, cider, mead, and wine options that can help wash down the tasty food truck offerings.
There will be traditional Virginia whole hog barbecuing demonstrations and, importantly, free samplings.
The adventurous may want to sign up for one of the contests, including the chicken flipping contest and the log splitting contest. You can also place a bet on the Shenandoah Downs Harness Racing.
Pick up a craft that screams fall from one of the artisans on-site, like a rustic piece of pottery or woodwork.
Bent Mountain Fall Festival
Date: Oct. 3
Location: 10148 Tinsley Ln., Bent Mountain, VA 24059
Although the Bent Mountain Fall Festival offers all kinds of seasonal fun, the Cornhole Tournament is the centerpiece of the day. Consider playing in the tournament on your own or bring a partner. The top teams will receive a trophy.
The free festival will also include live music, inflatables, a petting zoo, children’s activities, food and drinks, and local vendors.
Hands & Harvest Festival
Dates: Oct. 9-11
The Hands & Harvest Festival is all about celebrating the bounty of the season in Highland County.
The highlight of the three-day event is the Harvest Trail, offering farm and maple sugar camp tours, so come prepared to sample some tasty apple butter and pressed cider. The festival will feature live entertainment, a 5K Fall Color Run, and opportunities to climb to the top of Sounding Knob Fire Tower for stunning views of the surrounding area.
It serves as a great opportunity to do some early holiday shopping with the many unique arts and crafts vendors that will be present. Be sure to also check out the artist demonstrations.
54th Annual Festival of Leaves
Date: Oct. 10
Location: 414 E Main St., Front Royal, VA 22630
There’s no better way to celebrate the joys of fall than to attend the 54th Annual Festival of Leaves in historic downtown Front Royal. It features food, beverages, and live entertainment.
The menu includes hearty options like barbecue, crab cakes, corndogs, and waffles. Don’t forget to get some homemade ice cream or a dirty soda. Beer and mead will also be served.
The live entertainment will be spread across three stages, including the Gazebo, Main Street Stage, and Chester Street Stage. Be sure to attend the opening ceremonies at the Gazebo at 10 a.m.
Massanutten Fall Festival
Date: Oct. 10
Location: 1822 Resort Dr., Massanutten, VA 22840
Tucked into the rolling hills and mountains of the Shenandoah Valley where fall foliage is plentiful, Massanutten Resort is a can’t-miss fall destination, so consider attending the Massanutten Fall Festival from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. for an afternoon packed full of music, food trucks, and artisans.
The band lineup features The Six Piece Suits, The Judy Chops, and Spilling Dew.
Tickets are $11.79 in advance and $20 at the gate. Children 6 and under get in for free.
